I've looked through previous threads and am not getting a clear answer. I recently got a LCD TV and surround sound and am wanting to put my m570ru on them. I"m running winxp. I know that the DVI to HDMI cable will export the video. Will it export the audio as well?

If not is that what the spdif port is for? I tried it with a 1/8" to 1/8" stereo plug (the kind you'd plug into the headphone out on a portable audio device) with no luck. I have some digital coaxial but it didnt seem to fit into the spdif out.

I set the sound to digital output in the realtek sound manager. But it didn't auto detect anything when I plugged the 1/8" cabe in so I think I may have had the wrong cable.

I'd appreciate getting any help outputting 7.1 audio so I know which cables I need to buy.

Would the cable look like this?

If so would it then automaically switch from laptop speakers to outputting to my stereo receiver? Because when I tried just the 1'8" to 1'8" the sound still played through the laptop.

I have the same problem and I'd be interested to know more about it. Whenever I plug something into the black port (SPDIF) it doesn't autodetect, and continues playing on the laptops speakers.

That should be the correct cable, and switch (probably need to be done manually) to realtek digital output.
