I just recieved my new laptop on last thursday, and ive been reading quite a bit about BF3, and how it will be much more graphically intensive than BFBC2. My rig can run bfbc2 on maxed settings without any problems, but i assume that when bf3 comes out it will no longer be up to the job. I have a few questions
1) how does NiBiTor work? is there a guide or something specifiaclly for the 485m? or can some one teach me.
2) what program should i use to overclock. right now im using msi afterburner, because nvidia system tools for some reason wont change the clocks according to gpu-z.
3) what kind of clocks should i be aiming for after using NiBiTor, and msi afterburner.
Currently the max clocks i can use without artifacts using just msi afterburner are
Core : 695 Mhz
Shader : 1390 Mhz
Memory: 1740 Mhz
according to msi afterburner. \

I'd like to see one link, besides the one where the guy says no PC can run it (bull). I don't believe for one second no PC can run it, that's absurd.
-
what do you mean by one link. and the makers of bf3 said that for the 360 it will run 720p upscaled to 1080p at 30fps. of course most games for consoles are already like that so it wont really make too much of a difference.

I wouldn't worry about overclocking much until you have a chance to run the game first. The current batch of games haven't really pushed hardware much, as most are direct console ports with some tweaks. They're aiming for a larger segment of the market rather than doing what Crysis did by aiming for the upper end enthusiasts.
-
i was just playing bfbc2 and my machine made a wired buzzing noise from the graphics card, and then it froze. it happened when i ran the Apache ran into a tree, and when it got close to a tree before it started buzzing.
-
A link saying that BF3 is too demanding for current PCs, is what I meant. And I've already seen the one with the guy claiming no PC can run it, so don't bother linking that.
-
im getting artifacts on stock clocks i think theres a problem with my card, and like i said before it crashed and made a loud buzzing noise
-
Must be the over-clocking. I have had over 8 different graphic cards in my lifetime and I never had problem with anyone of them. I think it because I don't OC my gpu what so ever as I feel the performance was always significant enough and I don't think I will over-clock my 485m when I do get it. I like to leave everything in stock form and I'm pretty sure we can run the game on high with max everything at 40 fps.
-
yeah ill check to make sure everything is stock then reboot. ive been having some weird problems though.

Sorry to hear you are having problems, my PC comes in tomorrow, it will take awhile to get setup but hopefully we can play some BFBC2 tomorrow night!
-
the artifacts are going away slowly, i think the card just needs to be burned in before i overclock it. so ill leave it stock. im stiil getting used to the whole mouse and keyboard thing, but i found a great program for using a 360 wired controller, with my pc, so for now im kindof switching back and forth. its dificult to configure, with my current controller, because i had modified it so a small chip inside could control the joystick direction for canceling out scope movement, which ive noticed there is in bfbc2 only on the computer.
on a side note i tested my xbox by setting it to 720p, and it looks exactly the same as 1080p on my monitor, which really suprised me. i have a 720p monitor, so it looks like i may switch to that so its not all blurry. -
Yeah, I know it wasn't a forum member.

yeah but most games only have 4 classes, look at bc2 compared to bc1.
In bc1 there were 5 classes. You had assault, demolition, specialist, support, and recon. they had a great idea of combining the demolition and specialist into engineer and giving the engineer the tool. The give the recon the mortar, which sucks compared to JDAM, and they allowed guns that would work on any class, like the m14 g3 and shotguns, they also added pistols to every class instead of just the recon. also they made the support a medic, and gave him the defibrillator. there were somethings that were better in bc1 like the helicopters, and tanks, but in general it was a major improvement, not to mention that bc1 was not available on pc. -
I am glad you got your game to work again. Enjoy it and hopefully I'll get mine soon. Keep it at stock for now unless there is a game you want that could use the extra fps. -
yeah i was playing last night and this guy was like 50fps on max sucks you should be getting at least 100+, and im like, look this is a 15 inch laptop running one of the most demanding games on 1080p with maxed settings, id like to see a desktop thats this small and can play at these settings.

BF3's going to be awesome, but the game I really have been waiting for is Guild Wars 2!!!! o the memories
-

For all those who say it wont be playable, ur totally wrong... When crysis gave the trailers NO COMPUTER was gonna be able to run it aswell. and guess what, various cards are able to give decent performance.
Now, i have no marketing major but PLEASE PEOPLE. do u think EA is gonna release a game that less than 10 percent of the gamers will be able to play?? get serious... i bet a 555m will do ok in 720p.
And for those who say: HAVENT U SEE THE GRAPHICS IN THAT??
again... crysis .... -
Here is a tech demo showing a preview version of BF3 that plays ok on the 555m.
Notice the graphics have been turned down somewhat to accomodate the 555m.

Fully agreed with Flapo.

I'm waiting actually for:
- of course, Battlefield 3 (I should be able to get into the Beta with the MoH limited access soon)
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (I know what are you thinking... yet I want to know how the story ends, I've played all CoD since now and I will play this one too)
- Star Wars: The Old Republic (I really hope I will enjoy it, I'm waiting for this MMO since 2009)
- Mass Effect 3 (I really love the Mass Effect series, it's one of the most entertaining game series I've ever played)
- Guild Wars 2 (after Wow, I'm not very interested in another fantasy MMO, yet GW2 will be revolutionary regarding gameplay and much more, so I'm willing to give it a shot)
My new laptop is:
Santech N67
(Italian Clevo PH150HM barebone)
15.6" HD+ "Glare Type" LED Glossy Screen (1600x900)
Intel Core i7-2820QM
ATI Mobility Radeon HD6970 2048MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11
8,192MB DDR3 1333MHz HyperX (2 SODIMMS)
Optical Blu-ray SuperMulti 6X
120GB Intel 510 (SSD Serial-ATA III)
External HD USB 3 - Samsung Portable S3 500GB 7200RPM
Intel Ultimate WIFI N6300
I hope I will be able to run all those games with Medium-High settings at least.
What do you think? -
yes i want the the old republic, ive been waiting for years now, 5 i think, and i still have kotor 1 and 2.
-
-
isn't the old republic supposed to be like kotor?
-
-
yeah im signing up to do the beta, which is exciting, because before i couldn't even do betas.

2 - MW3 is not being developed by the same people that did MW2, or MW1. The story is probably going to hell, I highly doubt the leftovers/new team could properly finish that storyline. Don't get your hopes up.
3 - Star Wars: TOR looks, feels and seems to play like World of Warcraft. Just with guns and Jedi. Don't get your hopes up if you wanted something really different.
4 - ME3... I don't know. I never played ME, only the demo of ME2. So I've got little to add to this. Enjoy?
5 - No clue about this. Don't even know what Guild Wars 1 *looks* like, though I've heard it mentioned many times in the past. -
ive read that the P151HM1 with gtx 560m wont run bf3 smoothly..?
-
run what smoothly (bf3?)
gtx 560 (m?) -
yes, bf3 and 560m

Nothing solid has been released as far as system requirements for BF3. We probably won't hear anything official for another month at least.
That being said, it's an upgrade to the Frostbite 1.5 engine driving Bad Company 2. My thoughts? It will run nearly as well as Bad Company 2 does. One thing that may contribute to some performance issues is 64-player maps. But that's mostly CPU and not GPU and Sandy Bridge quad cores are quite the juggernauts of CPU performance. -
I'm curious why so many people bad mouth MW3. There's more to a game than incredible graphics and huge multiplayer maps. I enjoyed the MW series quite a bit, even though I've played all the BF games since BF 1942. MW has some great adrenaline induced scripted cinematics. The numbers speaks for themselves. MW is a huge hit and the vast majority of gamers enjoy the scripted storyline. I play and love both series. I'm just hoping BF3 is as great as BF2 was.
Putino, I am with you on Mass Effect 3. Before, I would never have been caught playing a game with any RPG aspects, but Mass Effect 2 blew me away. The storyline is probably the best of any game I have ever played. If I was forced to play only one game out of BF3, MW3, ME3, I would pick Mass Effect in a heart beat. I am praying they have an epic, mind-blowing ending that the series deserves. -
The reason everyone bashes on cod is because small children have entered the online and adults don't want to play with children in a war game. Also cod has been using the same engine since cod 4, they need to make a new engine that has better graphics, even bad co 1 had better graphics.
-
Historically the Battlefield series have captured the war "feel" and the huge maps and aircraft and tanks and boats really improve the gaming experience. CoD you fee like it's a video game, BF you feel like it's almost a simulator, albeit greatly simplified. With BF there's strategy involved, teamwork is encouraged by the gameplay, and the huge maps make you want to learn to survive so you don't have to hoof it a couple miles just to get back into the action.
CoD to me was like being in a small painball field with gunners waiting for you to step onto the field. Constant spawn kills. I dunno, it didn't interest me in the least. -

lol yeah some people do take it too seriously, but then there are times when noobs do stupid things, like team killing, and using the helicopter for 100 feet then bailing and then the heli blows up.

Many, many hours in multiplayer... I probably have you beat. I've been playing FPS since Doom (I built my FIRST network just to play it), and it's always been about the multiplayer experience.
Having said that, I do love a good single player campaign to sharpen my weapon skills before I ever play a multiplayer map, and I like a decent ~10-12hr campaign.
Black Ops campaign was a roller coaster ride at 6hrs, but too short. MP is still good.
COD: MW2 campaign was great, but a lousy ending... Console ported multiplayer SUCKED.
COD5:WAW campaign was awesome (I still have nightmares about the Spider Holes). MP was good too.
COD4 had an incredible campaign and multiplayer... Forever the Gold Standard in video gaming.
I never finished the BF:BC2 campaign... zzzzz. The BF:BC2 multiplayer was decent (on the right hardware... i picked up an SLI mobo and 2nd 260GTX for BF:BC2), but my friends dropped BF:BC2 like a bad habit for Black Ops.
I bought BF2, but I didnt get much playtime because of school.
I hope BF3's audio-visual realism will set a new standard computer gaming. -
well the problem with bfbc2's campaign was that you had to play the first to understand it, and the first one was only for console, i think they should bring bc1 to pc.
-
All these games are done already (GW2, BF3, and Skyrim) they just want it to hold for the Christmas sale so they can make more money, it a business thing but it suck for us paying customer in the summer. Does that make sense? My grammar is really off today.

its people like you who make the game bad.
