So my new baby is gonna arrive tomorrow and I have scoured these forums looking for all the right things to do first. I will list them here and I'd like to know what some of you think.

#1) Squeal like a little girl when I see the box on my doorstep

#2) Unpack and make sure I have all ordered components. Check over the laptop for scratches and defects.

#3) Turn it on. Fully charge battery. Make sure everything is working and I have all configured hardware. Check temps and fans.

#4) use the guide from tweakguides.com to optimize vista.

#5) Make sure my windows firewall is up. Install Kaspersky. Then go online and install firefox, ad-aware, spybots&d.

    #6) Install all updates.

#7) Install third party software and enjoy.

So From what I can tell, I don't need to reformat because theres no bloatware with the Sagers right? I'm using this laptop for media work. (audio programs like reason and finale, Photoshop and dreamweaver. )
    and of course for gaming.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Not too much, aside from Nero and Powerdvd. There might also be a 60d version Office on it.

Why would I dual boot XP? So far I've seen alot of people using vista. What are the other benefits besides higher benchmarks? I'm not chasing FPS.

Also I got 4gb ram. Sooner or later I'm gonna put the specs in my sig. I'm lazy.

XP is less troublesome and is compatabile with much more programs. Vista keeps asking you permsiiion 50 times before installing a single program...

Don't I need Vista to recognize all 4gb of ram though?

Yeah okay, so added major specs in sig. Also I got Vista Home Premium 64.

The OS will recongnize it in Vista, but thats all. If you have photoshop running in XP, it will still used 3.2GB + ram although the OS only recognizes 3.2GB

Wow. So I just looked up a tutorial on how to dual boot. Now I wouldn't say I'm computer illiterate but to be honest this whole tweaking/overclocking/dualbooting and otherwise finagling with computer guts and lines of code is a new world for me. I certainly appreciate your comments and I've bookmarked alot of threads on this stuff.

However as far as dual booting is concerned I think I'm gonna try and do whatever it is I would normally do without XP and see if anything really irritates me. I'll admit, I haven't used vista so I may very well be changing the OS soon. I guess only time will tell.

For most people, its OK, but advanced users/gamers prefer XP.

XP is much cleaner and quicker... I've been using Vista for a few months now and once you get past the "are you sure you want to do this?" crap, it's a decent OS. I'll still be dual booting my 5793 once it gets here though with XP!
