First of I would like to thank everyone that has responed to my previous post about the processor choice. I decided to get the Q6600.. Thanks for your help guys.

Well I'm ordering it from xoticpc and they charge for the os. Here are my options

    1. I already have xp at home. so I can order it with no os and save money

    2. Order it with vista and take advantage of using the full 4gigs of ram.

But as far as game performence. Which one Should I be using, xp or vista ?
the sales rep at xoticpc said to get the vista because of the dx10.

How much of a difference does dx10 have over dx9 ?

I'm a gamer so I want the best performence and the highest settings.
I hate lowering resolutions because it blurs the picture, color not as bright and clear.

    Thanks again guys. :D

To date, the consensus is that XP generally provides better gaming performance than does Vista, and DX10 is too novel yet to change that equation. Go with WinXP-Pro (because MS will provide security support for Pro longer than for Home) and, when either (a) support for XP-Pro runs out, or (b) Vista eventually becomes a properly functioning OS (or, more likely, when Windows 7 is released :D ), consider making the switch then.

There are some early reports that Vista's SP1 has had a pretty good impact on gaming...but again, that's not from direct experience. XP Pro is, as they others have stated, probably the safer choice depending on what games you do play.

    later and good luck,
    pat!

SP1 improved my 3dMark06 score from 9138 to 9218. I haven't tried it with any games, but I can't wait to test out Crysis.
