Playing GRFS is cooking my GPU. I get temps in the mid to high 80's. In any other game my GPU never exceeds 80c but for some reason GFRS is just cooking it.

I also noticed that it doesn't matter on my Video Setting. DX11 on/off AA on/off Medium or high settings.

Anyone else having similar temps in this game?

You do realize that standard gaming temp is 89c, right? :] Your temps are just fine. I hit temps of 86c to 93c while playing Crysis 2 on Ultra + Direct X 11.

Also, your computer shuts off when your GPU hits around 110c so that will make sure you don't hurt anything.

I'm aware of the the thermal limits of the 6990m but it seems odd that no other game pushes the card to those temps.

Only thing to ever drive my GPU temps that high is furmark.

Trayeberle what drivers do you recommend?

Honestly, I just have my stock drivers. I just received my NP9170 last Thursday. I wouldn't worry about the temp, though. Everything is working fine. I haven't played GR on my computer yet but with different game engines come different spec requirements. It's probably just taking a little more than other games you've played. But if your GPU doesn't reach high 90's, you should be fine. :]
Hope I could help. If you have any other questions, let me know.

You shouldn't go past 90 degree, but I'm sure you know of that.

But OP there is nothing wrong with those temperature as most new games now use DX11 so that is to be expected. This is why it now more important than ever to choose a GPU that use less heat over game play and graphics some time. That or you could invest into a cooling unit.

Ehhhh that's arguable. GPUs very commonly go over 90c. It's warm but it definitely won't hurt anything. :] Main point: Keep it under 100c. Hahahahaha

I'm not sure about that none of my games not even Crysis 2 on ultra is past 90c.

What games are you running again?

Crysis 2 Ultra With High Res Textures and DX11 doesn't hit above 90c for me. I will test out Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and report back

It also depends on the temperature. When it is 84F or more, my GPU temps reach 85C. When it is about 75F, my temps never surpass 80C unless I'm Overclocking. Maybe some of you guys are playing in extremely hot weather. 7970m also seem to be reaching higher temps than other cards.

Ok ran this beautiful game maximum temp was 85C and this is with a 6990. I have everything on max except vsync which is off.

Getting between min 30fps max 55fps... plays great..
    On 12.4 drivers..

    Hey Tray,
So glad i found you man! I'm not sure if i'm supposed to be posting this here or not but i am in dire need of some help. I own an Alienware M17x R2. Here's my config: Intel Core i7-920XM (2GHz, 4 Cores/8 Threads, turbo) CrossFireX Dual 1GB GDDR3 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4870 (NO DX11), 8Gb 1333 RAM. The problem is whenever i start Ghost Recon Future Soldier it plays for about 5 minutes and the computer just shuts down after!!! like the charger stops supplying power and my battery needs to be reinserted to turn on computer again! Any idea what i can do? It happened with my M17x r1 and BF2 long ago, i reduced the GUP core using MSI and it stopped. should i try the same here? Please HELP!

Well I have a similar thing happen when I play on battery life, but not while I'm plugged in. If I play on battery, my computer completely dies in about 5 minutes. I'm not real familiar with Alienware... Something to try is unplug you battery and just leave the power cord in. That might work. :]

Just to note by the way, playing at 90+ degrees over a long period of time (more then an hour) actually does affect your card so its advised to keep it below 90.

guys, I just installed the game, and was shocked to see it is stressing my 7970m more than metro 2033 and bf3, seriously, when I max it (with tess high) I get about 20fps, can anyone share their settings (7970m) and their fps?

Thanks for the reply tray. I some how managed to make it work properly, but only on a low resolution though. I guess it's because of my graphics card (Old Ati 4870s). But it works now nonetheless. thanks again for the advice, Tray. Have a great one!
    Cheers

No problem, Bro. You should look into a new GPU, soon! :] This is the time to buy because it will be a while before better GPU's are released!
