Good to know. Buddy was looking to buy one for his kid, since prices were really cheap.

Well, HP's never made gaming-grade laptops in my eye, but I still think this is news to me, as a lot of my relatives have bought HP desktops and laptops which ran without problems.

Yeah, same here. I think it was inevitable as their financials in the PC/laptop quadrant haven't been too rosy for a while.

I agree with them about the "tablet effect", the landscape is changing for better or worse. Thanks for posting those links.

More like bad CEO to me.
If HP really wanted too, they could get the other phone makers to use WebOS, and they win. Xd
A Galaxy S 2 with WebOS would be insane.

The bad CEO was the woman who made HP buy Compaq and then HP's stock dropped in half. HP makes the least profit out of all their divisions with the PC and it drains their resources. Look at IBM and what they did. They sold their whole operation to Lenovo and they are much stronger for it.

The only thing I will miss from HP are their monitors.

I don't think there is enough room in the phone ecosystem for more than two strong OS' because there is not enough support for enough apps to compete with iOS or Android. Apps make or break any mobile OS these days.

They are looking to exit the business. It's going to take around 12-18 months to seriously examine the situation.

I'll bet that in a few years the majority of consumer pc sales will be by boutique's and resellers to the enthusiast / gaming market. Most of the "average" consumers will be buying trimmed down tablets and netbooks.

More and more businesses are moving away from full pc's already, switching to dumb terminals and cloud computing.

So I was right in the OT thread I posted in; it is because of tablets.

What that sounds like to me is, they're going to give it 12 to 18 months for sales to pick up, if not, they're getting out.

They're spinning off the PC division, just like IBM did a couple years back.

So either another company will be selling PCs with the HP name, or some other company will be selling PCs with the HP look like Lenovo does with the old IBM brands.

It's the PSG (personal systems group) that makes pcs, printers, phones/pdas, etc...
