This has been one of the biggest issues when deciding which Lotus laptop I want to purchase. I honestly cannot decide between the GlassView (P150HM) and the Matte (P151HM1). From what I've read, it all comes down to personal opinion.

What type of screen do you own? What are your opinions of each screen type?

I just got glassview one the 95% upgraded one and compared to my friends 8130 stock matt screen and to be honest his looks brighter and has a deeper black which I find odd.

Gloss screens I always saw had better black and more vibrant color. My colors seem more realistic just screen does not go as bright and blacks are not as dark. If could do again maybe would get matt but still would do upgraded 95% just cuz. Don't get me wrong though, both look good!

Usually different people have different preferences and biases on this subject. From a purely practical standpoint, with a matte screen, you won't have to worry about glare. Regardless of type, a screen's appearance is a result of it's various properties (brightness, contrast ratio, gamut, etc.) and proper calibration, so it's certainly possible to have a gloss screen look worse than it's matte counterpart.

Your best bet is to read through this thread, if you haven't already.

I had been considering a 95% upgraded screen, but I'm not sure if I can justify the price as it'd be pushing the boundaries of my price limit. The gloss screens always look so pretty, but the glare sometimes kills it for me.

Ahh, awesome thread moho, I've just looked through some of it and am still reading through it. Very informative... it's not easy to find something this helpful elsewhere.

This was also a decision I was up in the air with when deciding which one to get...it seems mostly a personal preference (and a financial one in your case and many others too)

I personally prefer the Matte screens...the glossy screens look awesome and pretty in low light but I feel like glare can kill it; the Matte screens looks great all the time! :p

Just my opinion...there is plenty of people out there that love the glossy screens!

To me, a good way to quickly visualize it is that glossy screens look more like an iPad and matte screens look more like an Amazon Kindle (but without the benefits of an e-ink display, of course).

If only I had either one of those though :p

I got glass for one reason. My kids and their sticky fingers. ;)

Glossy vs matte is pretty much form over function. Glossy screens look great aesthetically, but matte screens perform much better in various lighting conditions.

My vote is for glossy just because it looks nice, and I can tolerate the glare.

After some experience buying laptops I'll never buy glossy again given the choice. My computing environments are full of glare though and I actually use the portability aspect of my laptop.

If your laptop is permanently in a place without glare then glossy would be ok.

Go with Matte, you won't regret it. Upgrade to the 95% on the P150HM if you can afford it. The lack of glare is marvelous, and colors look great. You don't have to worry about it being less pretty than a glossy screen because I find it very hard to believe that someone could be anything less than completely satisfied with this screen.
