Was pretty happy till the 4th. Now it looks like ive had my first taste of a company gone bad, and being on the recieving end.![]()
Just before Christmas (24th) i bought a new Evesham Zieo NX680-HDX (£2000) notebook. I had been waiting for the 8800M to arrive, and had been without a computer since early november. I had not upgraded for a while so I was able to go that extra bit to get something nice to play all those games on.While space saving! and being somewhat portable... The Zieo by evesham was a really amazing specification compared to anything else i could buy then.
Well Evesham promised to get the 8800M equipped Clevo's in before 2008, and I knew of their past trouble in November but since they were bought out and they assured everything was now back to normal, i swollowed my reservations and decided to go for it. They came through, it landed on my doorstep *just* in time for Christmas. So far thing seem to be ok, having a sort of intermitent issue with the keyboard where it seems to miss keypresses. Not sure if its my imagination, or perhaps not pressing the keys hard enough... anyways...
On the 4th of January, Evesham poped up on The Register with the headline "Evesham Technology goes into liquidation".
http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/01/04/evesham_technology_liquidated/
The comments seem to suggest it was the old company (that went in November last year) that finally went into Liquidation and the new company was still fine.
Well today Eveshams website appears to be down. Coincidence? Probably not.
I don't think that ill have much joy getting anything from the Credit Card company since they actually delivered the item, if this keyboard issue is a fault or not i doubt im covered, and if Evesham really have finally died completley i now have no where to turn for support now or in future.
Assuming (and its looking likley) this is the case, are their any suppliers of Clevo notebooks that will service/repair notebooks not bought from them directly? Since they are all basically the same notebook...
Thanks.

You could call Rock and ask them. You could probably get warranty in the US, but I am not sure about UK.

There is a Clevo Service Centre in the UK, they also sell spares.

First, you should read your warranty agreement to find out who the actual warrantor is - it's possible that the warranty was only sold by Evesham, and that the company responsible for actually paying on any warranty claims is another company altogether.
Second, you should check with a local consumer protection/advocacy group to find out what the relevant law is regarding claims made under a warranty issued by a liquidated/bankrupt seller - there may be some sort of protection available to purchasers in your position, particularly if you paid a separate amount specifically for warranty coverage (typically, in the US these are called service or extended warranties).
You may not have as much protection if you're just covered by the general warranties of merchantability and fitness for use (or whatever the analogous terms are in the UK) that every merchant is deemed to make unless explicitly disavowed, in which case you may be limited to filing a claim with the receiver in the event that a claim arises during the receivership, in which case you may be no better off than a run-of-the-mill unsecured creditor. On the other hand, if you paid a separate fee for a warranty, then whomever sold the warranty was probably subject to licensing and regulation, and required to maintain reserves against potential warranty claims, in which case you may be able to continue to rely on the underlying reserve fund.
Caution: legalese CYA B.S. comin' down - get your brolly up!
Now, just to be perfectly clear (and do the obvious CYA), this ain't legal advice - not no-wheres, not no-how - just friendly suggestions for avenues of redress you might want to consider exploring. Talk to your local lawyer/attorney/solicitor/barrister ('tho the last may only be useful if you gotta sue
- which reminds me, do they still wear wigs?
) before you do anything to act on these friendly suggestions, 'cause you're purely on your own.
Going Under - Any generic clevo suppliers for warrentys? (UK)
