    Hi Guys,

Hope you knowledgeable people can help me. I've made my decision to buy one of these (after weeks of research on these boards) from either here

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp.../www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk/nexus_overview.php

But i have one final question, hope you can help me with. I tend to leave my current laptop (dell inspiron 9300) on overnight and sumtimes in the day as well, downloading stuff, so it could be on for 12 - 18 hours straight. Is this advisable for my new laptop, or will it kill it (heat etc), if so was thinking of gettin a cheap desktop (£100ish from eBay) to fulfil my time consuming downloading needs.

    Thanks for your help

I'm guessing with a cooler there should be no problems. I keep mine on a lot too and so far no problems ;).

Are you going to be getting rid of your old _Dell laptop? If not, then, instead of getting a cheapie desktop for your downloading needs, why not simply convert the _Dell into a download station, if you will - perhaps like some sort of ersatz file server?

My M860TU is on pretty much 24 hours a day. Maybe I put it to sleep while I go see a doctor, but usually I leave it running.

    It has low idle temps.

Thanks for all the reply guys.

So let me get this straight...

If i get a laptop cooler, such as this Zalman ZM-NC1000 (is it ok? or are there better ones out there?) and i take my battery out when its on for long periods of time, i'll be able to leave it on all night / day for downloading stuff?

Shyster1: Thanks for the idea, unfortunatley my current laptop is going to be up for sale with the funds going towards my new beauty.

    Thanks again guys

Hey, I LOVE your avatar! Final Fantasy FTW!!! :D :D

@ I will just have to echo that if you want to leave it on that long you should take the battery out and get a good cooling. That will extend the life of your baby by a lot. :)

I will warn you though, laptops are not eternal. No matter how good of a machine you get, or how well you take care of it. They will eventually die, leaving it on for long periods of time will eventually catch up with you. The HHD is usually the first to go.

Run it in silent mode (i.e. underclocks gpu & cpu) and it runs super cool (and silent). Even in 85C+ room temp it hasn't gotten very warm (55Cish HDD) in silent mode, without the cooler being on.

Zalman NC2000 is a better purchase; NC1000's too small. And it rocks on this notebook :)

I leave my battery in, and mine's been on for ages now as well. You can download RMClock and run that, and it has an option to prevent batteries from charging while on A/C - any battery problems solved!
