So, I received my 8660 today. In summary I played Cod4 for two hours with a laptop cooler. Laptop hardly got warm although the warmest part was the right side handrest (200GB 7200RPM =P). 2 or 3 dead pixels but they are on the right side of the screen.. any advice for helping to get rid of them is appreciated, tried massaging for 5 min didn't help. Ran Cod4 wonderfully, no hiccuping. Installed Nod32 AV. Cooler used was NC1000, I think the 8660 and NC1000 were made for each other. Laptop bag that Xotic sent for free was nicer than I thought, 8660 and nc1000 fit fine, along with adapter (which only got warm, not hot) and CD's, flash drive, etc.

For tweaking I shut off indexing, and system restore, as well as shutting off sidebar on startup and shutting off the constant alerts that Vista gives upon first bootup. Used computer for a total of 5 hours, Took the battery out once it was charged to about 85 percent, and ran it only on AC from there.

So basically I'm a little disappointed with the dead pixels.. but they are not that noticeable, who knows maybe I will be bothered by them more in the future. I don't have time to deal with sending back the laptop as I'm heading to college in a few hours!

All in all I was happy with the purchase. A few dead pixels won't hold me back from having a good time especially when they are barely noticeable during gaming and there may be hope that I can fix one or more of them.

Are the pixels dead or stuck? Are they black - or are are they each solid colours?

Black - 'dead' pixels are irreparable.

Colourful - 'stuck' pixels can sometimes be fixed.

Confirmed black. So this killdeadpixel site is a gimmick then? :)

Also, I'm happy with it the way it is despite its "character" as long as those dead pixels cannot adversely affect the remaining "healthy" pixels on the screen, I can live with it. Your mileage may differ.

if its black... then its dead.

so if you do not want to live with it, you can contact your vendor and they you can get a system replacement for only the cost of shipping it back.

The site will help your dead pixels the same way a cancer patient benefits from an ionized bracelet.

Can you do some gaming without the cooler. We need to get a realistic frame of reference for temps.

Or a nice little video review. If no one else does, I'll make one when I get mine.

A word of warning: I ordered mine this Monday, so it's going to take some time.

congrats and now go get the babes in college.

I would really look into returning the laptop for one that does not have a dead pixel. I was lucky and did not receive any dead or stuck pixels...

What I meant to ask was: do you feel that the laptop runs very hot? Could you type on it without burning your hands or having components sublimate into carbon monoxide?

press Print Screen (Prt Sc) key, which copies the screen onto the clipboard.

then you can open a graphics program like MS Paint (that comes with all Windows) and Paste (Ctrl+V).

    There you go. :)

Save as a JPG if you can, its a smaller filesize.

Go to www.gadwin.com and there is a program (free) called Printscreen. It has several options and you can set it so it saves a screenshot directly to a file to the directory you want and to the type of file you want. It can capture whole screen or just active window. It's a freaking good program.

I'm very concerned about the dead pixel rate on the 8660. Of the very few who have received them already two peeps have dead pixels. Any idea who the manufacturer of these screens is? Evidently their quality isn't where it should be...

    That's 2 out of 6 current owners?

OK doesn't look as bad now.

I think people are just too picky, who would be bothered by one or two dead pixel on the screen? I think you won't even notice dead pixels unless you purposefully looking for them.

As stated numerously before, Dead Pixels do not pertain to the company that its coming from. Its what happens to it during transit that is usually the main factor behind dead / stuck pixels. Just because some peoples 8660 people had dead pixels does not mean that the 8660 is more prone to it its just a matter of luck which is universal to any laptop you purchase online.
