And just benchmarked 5318 in 3dmark06.
I LOVE this machine.

Congrats. I'm looking at this machine right now. What are your specs and how much did it cost?
-
Nice.
Congrats on the new beast.
lemme give you my pre-requisites for owning a high-end notebook:
Remember these things to have your notebook be healthy for years:
1) Battery: to maintain the longevity of any rechargeable battery
- you must NEVER overcharge it [especially for long durations of time] by keeping it plugged into AC
- when it reaches 100% you should unplug it and let it discharge to 5-15%, then plug it back to power
- OR you can just charge it to 50%+ and remove the battery and store in cool place [remember to use it occasionally to charge and discharge it].
2.) Heat: to prevent a healthy notebook from overheating
- ALWAYS use the notebook on a hard & flat surface
- RECOMMENDED to be used on a notebook cooler... namely the Zalman ZM-NC1000
- (for Clevo's) ALWAYS use the Fan Speed Toggle (Fn+F2) to switch all fans in the notebook to Max Speed (defaults at Auto Speed) when gaming and such.
- check your fans underneath occasionally (at least once a month) for any dust clogs [clean them out with Q-tips and air cans/compressors]
- ALWAYS monitor the temps (CPU, GPU, HDD, etc..) to watch for fluctuations, which would indicate overheating
By doing these simple things, your entire system will easily last for more than 3 years.

Gophn - I've already started following your advice. I've found a plethora of your posts to be helpful. -
Ok, I know I am being very redundant with my information....
I am tired of hearing about people's notebooks [battery, GPU, etc..] dying because they were either unaware or misinformed on how to take care of their notebooks.
I will continue until I see the trend of good notebook habits lean towards the positive end... which will probably be a long time from now.
Glad to know that I can help you keep your notebook healthy.
It will treat you well, if you do the same to it. -
Reminds me of the good old days when he was throwing info my way when I was a noob with the laptop.. I'm in vista 64 and can't do some stuff but thats ok.. I just max the fans out as even the Vista Glass interface runs the GPU all the time...
-
isnt it possible to let the laptop regulate the fanspeed automatically to what you are doing?
-
you can let the fans go Auto when you are using the notebook for casual things (web browsing, word processing, movie watching, etc...).
This feature for the high-end Clevo's to toggle fan speeds (Fn+1 for the new models, Fn+F2 for the old models) was created for the reason to prevent overheats.
Its recommended to game and use the feature. -
but when its set to auto and the gpu is stressed they dont go max automatically?
-
.
I don't do it, but my lappy is usually sit on a Zalman cooler. But there were time before the cooler, when a couple hours of gaming triggered the lappy to become quite warm.
Got my 5760 this morning.
