Hi, I know this is a dump question. But I still need to ask before buying it.
My question: is the DELL XPS M1730 NVIDIA 9800M GTX 2GB SLi Video Card fit into the D901C machine? If not, does anyone know where to buy the 9800M GTX since I want to upgrade my 8800M GTX (well, it was broken today; fixed it by baking it in oven @200 degrees for 10 min. Amazing, it does work!!![]()
I don't know how long it will last though...). Thanks in advance.

No the dell gpu would 100% not work with the d901c. A 9800m gtx can be found on eBay, it wont be cheap

+1
the main seller is eurocrap on fleabay. they charge like 700 dollars for them.
good luck!
btw the dell is a proprietary design that is essentially 2 boards in 1. (for m1730) not an MXM format.
however... you can get a quadro 3700m (i think that's the one.. anyways it's essentially identical to the 9800m. and it's cheaper too.. if you can find a good deal on ebay. which i've seen from time to time.
with modded drivers from lv2g you should be gold. i don't believe you can sli them though... hell you could use your other 8800m as a physX card... -

Ah, OK. Thanks guys!
I think pasoleatis was right. Maybe get a 280m GTX a better solution than two 9800M GTX at this point. -
Also the TDP of the 280mgtx is equal to one 9800m gtx, which is relevant if the noise of the fans bothers you.

I see. That's a very good point of having 280M GTX instead of 9800M GTX. I think I will go get a 280M GTX. Thanks a lot!

Good luck.

Strange, I thought there was a way to flash the vbios of the 8800 to that of the 9800 and presto, you now have 9800Ms in your machine. They were deemed to be the same card, at least that is what I thought. There used to be threads about it around here years ago.

You should be able to flash the bios from a "smaller" card (8800M GTX) to a "bigger" (in terms of shaders) card (9800M GTX) if they are from the same generation, such as G92.
The other way around is not necessarily safe. -
Graphic card compatible in D901C
