Howdy. I have a GPU fan on my Sager NP9150 that has been making a terrible racket. I didn't think this type used any grease and so not being able to solve the issue of why it was making the noise I purchased a new GPU fan. Turns out the new one has a bit of grease in seat above the coils directly where the fan/axle sits. This makes sense as my old GPU fan had a bit of black powder there, probably worn plastic.
Does anyone know what type of grease this is? I'm sure resellers would be familiar with it. I figured I post here as it might be faster than getting a response from my reseller.

In the past I have used some Synthetic Grease with good success. Since it is not petroleum based it is safe to use for the plastic on the fan. This is what I had left over from my RC heli but any grease of that kind will do.

Thanks for the link. A teflon based grease seems like a good way to go. Have you used it on a maglev fan before?

Yes I have used it before on this type of fan and it improved the rattling I was experiencing but didn't completely eliminate it. The reason was that the fan came from the factory bone-dry without any grease and that caused wear between the axle shaft and the "bushing" so the damage was already done before I realized it sooner. These are moving parts and imo they need to be lubricated to last long.

I haven't tried it personally, but have seen some recommend a high grade lubricant like those used for guns or bicycles. Avoid DW-40 or the like; it's diluted and is likely to be only a temporary fix, if it helps at all.
