Momentus XT 2 with 8GB NAND flash and 750gigs space. It retails at $249 , thats a lil steep though. I got my 1st gen xt on black friday 500gigs for $89 ! :)

any insights or comments ? Its supposedly 70% faster than 1st gen!

Just to point out, due to the hard drive shortage caused by the floods in Thailand, it may be until this time next year that prices start dropping again.

Otherwise, this drive looks to be a great jump up from the last model. It's really getting close to a real SSD in performance.

Yeah, the numbers in the review posted here were impressive. I still think the price is a little high right now. I saw that $89 deal on the 500GB version too, truly a unmissable deal for those who need a HDD given the times!

For $240 (the price of a 750GB Momentus XT), you could have gotten a 120GB Intel 320, a normal 500-750GB HDD, and an external DVD drive last week.

yeah, I was announcing the deals on all threads ! I did my part :) $249 is too much, I have 1tb +1tb usb3.0 hdd + blu ray burner, storage should not be a issue for me for a few months ;)

Haha you got my hopes up pretty good with that topic title... Actually I'm genuinely surprised there's still public interest in hybrids. You get faster boot up but really what else that prefetch and ramdisk can't do? Arguably the biggest benefits of SSDs are fast random reads and no moving parts, so I think that would be a better option for this kind of money. ONLY because current HDD prices are insane though ;p

Well, if one was limited to one drive bay or really do need an internal optical bay, the hybrids are still the best option. If one is open to considering a real SSD+HDD combo, then that is the right way to go. However, if for one reason or another that option is not open for consideration, then the hybrid drive is the absolute best way to go. I guess I consider them two non-competitive options aimed at two different sub-sets of users.

hybrids are still the way to go for atleast another year or two. Not with the flooding prices though! I would pay $149 for 750gig 8gb flash! :) two of those should do the trick and with an external portable 1tb. We dont need no ssds! :p
