I have been in contact with a reseller from NBR, I am not sure if it violates the reseller rules or would get anyone (myself included) into NBR trouble so to err on the side of caution, that reseller's ID is withheld.
Suffice it to say that a group buy is being proposed. A minimum of 5 systems would need to be ordered. You have a choice of barebones or with components for the OCZ Whitebook. I have requested permission to post pricing here but in the interim, I'll say the pricing is very reasonable with or without components.
Feel free to either PM me or just reply to this thread.
As you may have heard, OCZ is making some changes with respect to their reseller accounts and right now, this is destabilizing the GB price structure.
Once new information is available, I will update this thread. If there is a notebook other than the OCZ or M570TU that you would like to see a GB on, post
it here and I'll make sure the reseller gets it.

EDIT #1:
Here is the pricing for the OCZ. Right now, there seems to be no interest in the Clevo so it is not included.
If that changes, negotiations with the reseller can be opened for a seperate group buy on that system.
The standard barebone price is $1,378.00 and includes:
The 17" barebone notebook
A single ATI MR HD 3870 graphics card
A DVD Burner
Optional Components:
Bluetooth Module - $17.00
Lite-On WLAN module - $17.00
Intel Wireless LAN Module - $48.00
Second ATI MR HD 3870 graphics card; crossfire enabled - $440.00 § Price correction $220.00, not $440.00
Blu-Ray read-only drive - $500.00
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
EDIT #2:
Payment options are by echeck (cash) or credit card.
The price of $1,378.00 reflects a cash discount of $40 that would not be extended
to those using a credit card.

EDIT #3:
Order Count min 5 required
1) Zenica
2) Nirvana
3)
4)
5)

EDIT #4:
Member afitzwater had a question,
Question:
"would we still be purchasing the systems separately or would we have to send the money to 1 individual who would make the payment?"
Answer:
I received a reply from the reseller, each payment would be made direct. No middleman.
Now might also be a good time to mention that shipping charges apply based upon buyers zip code.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
EDIT #5:
Question: Do we have any gaurantee like we do with Sager in terms of returning the notebook with no questions asked if we unsatisfied for a full refund - shipping? Also, does this affect the other 4 individuals pricing if the notebook is returned?
Answer:
Laptops can be returned, but it will be (less) -shipping and (less) -credit card fees within 25 days after the order ships. It won't affect the other individuals' pricing.

EDIT #6:
Question:
If we include additional components, will they come installed into the OCZ whitebook? Or do the components come separate?
Answer:
They would come seperate.

EDIT #7
This is the updated pricing. To restate, there is no CPU, HDD or memory included. The Group Buy (GB) is barebones.
Base system - $1,228.00
(includes WUXGA screen, single 3870 card & DVD Burner)
Second 3870 card in crossfire +$220.00
Bluetooth +$17.00
Intel 5300 Wireless Module +$48.00
Blu-Ray Reader +$400.00
An order minimum of 5 is required and the prices reflect payment by check with a 3% increase for those who wish to pay by credit card.
Shipping charges will be dependent upon your zip code but should be between $30 and $50

I may be interested.
-
If it were the 570TU I would be interested
-
I will keep thread/group buy updates to the original post to avoid confusion.
-
If you could add the price for the 570TU, just to see the comparison.
-
put me down for whitebook
-
I inquired about the M570TU and was advised that due to the pricing structure for the Clevo, it would be equivalent to pricing already available from other resellers such as RJTech. This is the result of pricing them both as barebones systems: no CPU, HDD, Memory, Wireless or BT module.
As of today, the M570TU on RJTech with the Wifi & BT and the same screen resolution would be $1,489.00 -

When you buy a barebones, what type of warranty to you get with it? I understand the components you buy separately are under its own warranty but I am curious what is covered for the barebones.
-
1 year warranty through the reseller that in the end is serviced by manufacturer, OCZ in this case.
Is your avatar the actress from Battlestar Galactica? -
Thanks. So if we did a group buy, would we still be purchasing the systems separately or would we have to send the money to 1 individual who would make the payment?
My avatar is Ziyi Zhang. -

Ziyi Zhang reminded me of Grace Park
Grace Park as on BSG
& now Grace Park NOT from BSG
You want to click me!
Not too shabby! -
-
I have yet another question. Do we have any gaurantee like we do with Sager in terms of returning the notebook with no questions asked if we unsatisfied for a full refund - shipping? Also, does this affect the other 4 individuals pricing if the notebook is returned?
-
I'll update the first post with the reply. -
-
can you send me some old laptop that you dont use anymore. i use it for skul -
I have maintained contact with the reseller and the plans for this GB are still in effect, provided pricing is conducive and there is sufficient interest.
So for those of us not in a rush...there is still hope! -
I've been lurking on these forums for a while. I registered just so I could try to get in on this deal.
If we include additional components, will they come installed into the OCZ whitebook? Or do the components come separate? -

I'm a little confused
the barebone in Xotic PC for this whitebook is 1300$, and group price is higher! so how do persuade ppl to group buy! -
$1260 with cash discount

Am I at the wrong site or did I pick the wrong notebook?
-
1260$ link below. I was going to stay out of this, but this group buy price isn't a discount at all.
http://www.xoticpc.com/force-extreme-built-arima-w840-order-p-2495.html -
I did not see that, the barebones link off the Laptop link...I must be going blind! I will forward this to the reseller. Certainly a GB can't exceed the cost
of a singular purchase and should represent a savings over a single unit ordered. -
Lets just come out and say it, are you purchasing these from darksmiley or killernotebooks? I doubt either one of them has a price margin like xoticpc.
-
****, it's actually $100 more from DSS. now tell me why would I pay $100 more from a brand new reseller while i can choose someone who are highly reputable and I personal dealt with for $100 less?
-
>.> well you guys aren't really even doing a group buy yet, maybe if you had like 10-15 people ordering at the same time, but still. Like I said DSS doesn't have a price margin like xoticpc.
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
I hope commenting on this doesn't break the reseller rules, but...
The pricing originally given was when the only people offering the barebone were RKC and I. Now that Xotic is in the game, the price will be lowered (if) this group buy takes place. I can no longer purchase from OCZ since they are now telling me that my account manager was wrong and I can only purchase in quantities of 100, so I will be buying it through a distributor who doesn't have the final pricing information yet. Once I get the final prices down I'll send them to Zenica. -
Sorry to hear that DSS, I am guessing xoticpc are purchasing from OCZ directly, so I don't see how are you possibly gonna beat their prices.
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
We'll see when final pricing comes in. Everyone has their vantage points: other resellers may purchase direct, but I have no overhead. If I can't beat their pricing when I get the final prices in from my distributor, by all means go with them - competition drives the free market
-
I'm interested if the barebone below $1000
-
Good luck with your dreams as well. -
-
xoticpc will honor the price whatever happen.....like what happen with sager nb5796 before.
im sure DSS can beat the price.
Group Buy; any interest?
