Rather just wait for Pascal or more likely build a desktop.

Also more interested in Nvidia either doing an exchange program so I can exchange my incomplete prototype broken 980M for the proper 980M with G sync enabled or give me a refund.

What's the story? Did they send you an ES/QS? GTX980M and GTX980M-G are 100% identical apart from their GPU ID.

If they are identical, then why doesn't G Sync work even though I have the 75 hz IPS display and G-Sync motherboard?

Because the driver checks for the GPU ID. Wrong ID, no g-sync.

There are two resistor different on g-sync mxm board to generate the other ID.

The whole thing could just be a driver feature, but nvidia wants to cash in on license fees. They always did the licensing of driver features for a long time on Notebooks with SLI, Optimus, 3D and now g-sync.

Then as you said, Clevo had the option to just not sell the non G-Sync models and sell G-Sync as standard.

Which especially makes sense to me for a 870DM model. It's a no brainer to me.

The factory still builds both, the reseller can buy what they want.

Some reseller only offer the g-sync models, but it won't work once you use a screen or GPU that isn't licensed by NVIDIA as well as cost them more than the non-gsync models.

Could one alter the resistor like the geforce to quadro days and enable gsync?

That's a thing you will have to figure out for yourself...

The quadro cards do use a different bios chip, I don't think it will be simple to do a quadro mod any way ;)

Was into that stuff a while back, luckily my acer had a beautiful brick recovery system.I'm sure it hated me for though for the constant laptop angels and bright lights it kept experiencing. It being an optimus card didn't help don't know what i was thinking at the time but hey.in the name of learning and discovery...But based on the scarcity of information (though i barely did 5 minutes of research)I figured, maybe people thought it was no longer worth it or went into caves to talk about it,in order to shield from the fire of green breathing dragon.

It's because they put physical protections in place.
