Ha ha, it started...our brothers over at Alienware are flashing their GTX580M to GTX675M:

So who is going to be the first one here?

wow
so maybe my 512sp 480m will post on aw......since x7200 keep refuse to post if bios id and core id mismatch -
Dont try to flash the 580M or 675M vBios onto a 480M! Youll just brick the card.
-
Don't worry DXG is talking about an other project of his...
BTW he's a real pro with reballing his own chips across MXM cards and extending stability with additional capacitors etc...flashing is his smallest problem...
He's a real treasure and its good to have him around... -
-
Nice, but really does this affect performance at all?
The 675M and 580M are basically the same card to begin with, all thats different should be the naming.
So did you notice any slight difference or is flashing it just for kicks of seeing it read as a 675M? -
hmm maybe 675m bios will let my 580m detect & use all its 4gb gddr5
but unfortunately, sold it to x7200 onwer......
btw just explode a poor fx3800m core last week

Could you please provide more detail?
Have you done this type of mod to any other mxm 2.1 card? -
mxm2.1 just this case, other mxm3.0/desktop
opsss kind of off topic -
-
no~~~hold!!!!!!!
only one of 580m is 4gb, and x7200 wont post if vbios id different with core id(at least every mismatch flash ive done) -
It won't even post if he just flashes only one of them?
-
If it's only because of the ID... you can easily change this.
-
bios id modding already popular?
c'mon expert, help mod 675m id from 1212 to 1211
@prema
if flash master card
if flash slave card
if flash both -
Device ID changed from 1212 to 1211.

id of this file is 1112 man
-
Whoops, sorry, seems I'm too tired for even simple modding. Corrected and reuploaded in my previous post. Time to find some sleep.

Original Clevo GTX675M BIOS from first post confirmed working on P150HM:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sag...evo-p150hm-owners-lounge-473.html#post8443595 -
hi there!
Ok I'm confused yet...
I own a Clevo X7200 with two gtx580m 2gb (SLI).
Which bios do i have to choose??The one with the 1211 id?
Thanks -
According to DXGs observations, YES!
Unlike the P series, the x7200 does this extra check so the 1211 mod will fix the the ID mismatch.
But as he also said, you could try the regular one one on the slave card first and see how it goes... -
Well it didn't work...
I tried the bios with the 1211 id fix, but same here as DXGs described....
The flash worked for the slave, but after I plugged the slave in the master, the screen of my X7200 remained black...
AND, GPUz showed me that device id is still 1212 and I am certain I choose the "fixed" bios. Obviously something went wrong with the fixed bios...
I reflashed the card to old gtx580m bios and everything is fine now...
cheers -
......so as i think, id modification is not that easy, maybe he just edit the sign id but not the true encoded id
and confirmed again, even the most similar vbios(675m closer to 580m than 485m/570m right?), x7200 still result in black screen -
@DXG
your welcome
@svl7
I would be happy to give it another try
If you find the time to have another look into the gtx675m bios and do miracles... that would be great -
not that this applies to me, but what's the point of this?

moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
I tried to make the ID 1211 with hexworkshop, but it probably wont work because I think the checksum is not right. But if you can blind flash then give it a go.

Thanks moral hazard!
HHumm risky...but, I edited the file with nibitor. I guess you took the vbios with the false id 1112 as I saw in nibitor (page 2 in this thread). So I changed the id to 1211 and voilà "integrity" shows up green. Does this mean checksum is ok?? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Probably.
But I actually had another go at it, the new one is attached, please fix the checksum as you did with the old one using nibitor, then maybe it will work.
Hopefully you know how to blind flash because there is a good chance it wont work.Attached Files:

ok thanks!
When you say "blind flash" you mean flashing the slave card while the master remains untouched in my SLI system?
If something went wrong, I will be able to boot up with the "master" card and flash the slave to it's original bios. Is this correct?
Will it be still possible to access the card with the wrong vbios in this scenario? -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Can't say 100%.
It should work as you say, but you never know... -
this would be more secure: put single card and flash it, if blackscreen or ???, put another card on master and bad card on slave to flash back(dont connect sli cable)
and remember dont do -9 (--eraseeeprom) -
ok it was worth a try...
after flashing the card came up this way (see attached). Still with id 1212... -
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Why does the bottom line of the first screenshot say 1211?
-
As I said I own a SLI configuration with two GTX580m, the one with id 1211 is the master card with original GTX580m vbios. Sorry for the confusion...
-
moral hazard Notebook Nobel Laureate
Sorry that it didn't work.
-
Oh don't worry, I am quite happy with my 580m's
many thanks anyway! -
I always thought I was a pretty hardcore computer user, but DGDXGDG and Moral Hazard has me thoroughly shamed
. Maybe by the time I finish my IT degree, my BGA Reball Kung Fu will be strong.
-
I can confirm that the unaltered 675M BIOS from first post works fine with P170HM(3).
Only on 3D model the 3Dvision tab will disappear because of missing license in the system Bios.
I am working on fixing that as a little preparation to get 3D on 680M...
If NVIDIA would only release an official 675M 3DVision driver, so I can test my work.
Anyone has a link to the Alienware 17xR4 3D screen version Geforce driver? -
Me again...
Just as a little input for everyone who is interessted, maybe DXG or moral_hazard...
According to this thread
GTX480 to C2050 hack or unlocking TCC-mode on GeForce - NVIDIA Forums
changing the device ID should be possible.
A guy described how he was able to mod his vbios firmware from a GTX480 to a C2050, he changed the ID from 06C0 to 06D1 and a few other things as well.
Due to my limited english knowledge it could has something to do with ??softstraps??. -
why is this flash even remotely surprising... the only thing that is changing is the name on the bios header...... the specs between both cards are identical
-
Since I work on bios mods this is good chance for me to properly understand the implementaion of the 3Dvision license. This will enable us to upgrade the GPU on native 3D screen Notebooks for some time to come.
Neither the P170HM3 nor the 3D Alienware 17xR3 will otherwise be able to upgrade their gpu while keeping the 3D feature.
The other point is that this bios has changed more than 30% of its structure since the lates GTX580M bios, so its also nice to have these under the hood tweaks implemented.
Then there is extended native future driver support.
An most of all: "JUST BECAUSE WE CAN"!
LOL -
Since i made the flash of my GTX580M, i couldn't adjust the brightness of the screen anymore.
Do you have the same issue? -
No!
Just install this driver:
v301.32 Windows 7/Vista 64bit | NVIDIA - 30x Series GeForce Driver release - LaptopVideo2Go Forums
Still no official 675M driver from NVIDIA... -
Same issue with v301.32 on my P150HM ... it's weird
-
Windows 7 64 & clean driver install?
What is your system BIOS version? Is it Clevo or Sager bios.
Then I can check how the card is handled tomorrow. -
It's a clevo P150HM
EC/KBC V 1.00.13
BIOS 1.01.14
Windows 7 64 and clean install driver
issue: whenever i flash the card with GTX675 bios the screen brightness become maximum and cannot be ajust anymore. The FN + F8 or FN + F9 has no effect. With windows key + x, when i move the cursor of the brightness, there is no effect.
It 's not a very big issue because the bios mod doesn't give a performance boost, so if you don't find i revert to GTX580 bios. -
You installed the driver after flashing to 675M, right?
Solving the brightness issue on P150 is anyway good for a little project I am doing...so let me see tomorrow if it is BIOS related... -
Yes i have installed the driver after flashing to 675m ...
I have also tried 301.24 or 296.10 driver with .inf modded by latop2video.
When i flash back to 580m bios, the brightness become adjustable without re-install the driver. -
OK, I checked your bios and the relevant part is identical to the non 3D P170HM.
So if brightness works for somone with P170HM, then it should work on P150HM, too.
Maybe someone with regular P170HM can test the 675M bios?
Gtx580m@gtx675m Bios :)
