Where can I find definitive and thorough guide for OC'ing and then undervolting my M860TU P9500 and 9800M GTS?

Is OC'ing the CPU of laptops even recommended?

People with the same setup, what is the stock max temp of your 9800M GTS when running Furmark?

There are plenty of guides for that in this forum alone. There are also some in the Hardware forum.

To OC the CPU, take a look at Audigy's SetFSB tool.

You can't OC both, so choose the GPU. All you need to do is use the Device Settings under the Performance tab in the Nvidia control panel.

    EDIT: CPU Undervolting Guide.

Well, I'm familiar with the Undervolting guide you linked me.

Also, I know how to change the settings I just don't know what settings to start with. Is there a general procedure to follow initially?

I heard that the core/shader clocks should always be 1:2.5 . My 9800M GTS has the G94 chip, is there a ratio between the core/memory to follow?

Sov Sun told me to use 2/3 for the core/memory but that was for the G92 chips. So I'm really not sure which is which.

Sorry, I had forgotten that your 9800M GTS is a G94. Regardless however, I find 2/3 for the core/memory to be the stable sweet spot. You should be able to run stable at 600/1500/900 before raising the voltage to push higher.

Why cant you OC both CPU and GPU? Even with 1333mhz RAM?

SetFSB overclocks the entire front-side bus, and leaves little room for higher GPU frequencies. You guys have been sold a load of crap with this talk of 1333MHz RAM.

Im faily sure the most (real world) performance you can get out of the M860tu or m860etu.. is with a

3.0ghz duel T9900 (that is the highest right?)
1066 ram at stock clevo set latencys
260m GT 1gb. . (but the 9800m GT with only 512 still overclocks to around the same level correct?)

i think its time some one made a sticky for (best gaming performance config)... for each clevo laptop.. to stop people wasting money messing around trying to overclock quads etc thinking things will happen that just wont and just wasting time/forum space.

Seriously if your pushing a laptop this hard you want gaming performance nuthing els so its pretty easy to narrow it down to 1 simple "best overall config"..

Now that this is a legacy laptop with only forseable GPU upgrades .. i think its time to get a (best in slot) gaming performance list made up..

possibly down to make.. batchs.. expected temps/batterylife etc.. so people beat around the bush on unwize upgrades.

Well if you want to get into notions of mods and overclocks the the 280M is the most powerful card.

    M860TU
    MOST POWERFUL CPU - T9900/X9100
MOST POWERFUL GPU - GTX 260M and BIOS upgrade (or GTX 280M with mod)

    M860ETU
    MOST POWERFUL CPU - QX9300
MOST POWERFUL GPU - GTX 260M (or GTX 280M with mod)

Any cards put in these models can be OC'ed quite well.

It's a good idea you have about the sticky btw HeathKidd

the issue is that for the M860ETU

    MOST POWERFUL CPU - QX9300 / "" T9900 / X9100 "" is prob more acurate.

People are passing on the higher clocked duels and going for quad options hoping to have extensive overclocking options which the M860tu just doesnt have via bios / heat managment.

If they had Realised the realitys of overclocking on clevo sistems before hand they would have prob opted for a 3.06 duel in a T9900 or X9100.. just look at this forum its full of users atm with Qx9300 or Q9200 ES that are trying to overclock it and realising in real world performance they would be better off with a 3.06 duelcore and a overclocked GPU.

Would Love best in slot stickys.. this kind of debate should be consolidated and easly found its the first thing most people think coming on here (if they are looking to perchase or upgrade)

It's constructive criticism, not meant as an insult, just a correction to help him improve his english.

The other common error is 'costumers' in stead of the correct 'customers', unless of course it refers to people who design costumes... ;)

With my 9800M GTS, I'm on 640/950/1600 which should be STABLE according to many users but during "Windows Vista or Windows 7 Welcome screen" I get a rainbow screen and the computer hangs up, I should restart the computer. Take note that this problem happens "randomly". Lowering the memory clocks to 900 solves the problem but 950 should be stable. Why is this happening? Some people even were successful with 980. I don't get any artifacts with ATITool and my temps are OK with Furmark, but still I have this problem.

results of OC can vary even if its the same GPU ...could be different batches use different video memory chips too.

Wow, ok. Why don't I even see any artifacts with ATITool then?

Ok, so the memory chips of my card have simply low quality :(

But I never read anything having the same problem as mine. If they OC their GPU too much, they just see artifacts. Mine hangs up with the rainbow screen.

Actually, I was able to test the GPU memory with VMT and OCCT and 100% no errors.

With 950MHz, I have no problems with ATITool, the rainbow screen plus hang up is just happening during startup and sometimes just on the desktop while opening some folders, not even files.
