so i've been running m860tu for a while, and when i tried taking a look at the temps, i caught the following. no OC and stuff, all default, first ran a benchmark and then some 06 demos, about half an hour altogether. do the score, the idle temp, the max temp seem okay to you?? Ah, ambient is about 26/27 celcius, man i need some opinions.

They are fine, especially for a quad-core. Are you using a notebook cooler?

You have a Q9200 in a notebook not officially meant to support it. The 80+ is normal and is not at all near dangerous.

yep those temps look about right. just undervolt and your temps will fall into the mid 60's-mid 70's.

The right side of the notebook contains all the components (HDD, CPU, GPU, etc.), and the left side only contains the optical disk drive and the battery... so naturally the right side is gonna feel much warmer. In my experience, a notebook cooler will improve surface temperatures a lot.

guess i'll have to game on for a while and see how the temps do. also on side, do any of you guys using a seagate 7200.4 hd happen to notice a infrequent but definately noticable ticktock sound? is the hd somehow shaking? coz apparently there's only one bracket holding it up.

I've run Far Cry 2 for a solid 3 hours, then checked my temps with HWMonitor and barely hit 50 degrees, which I believe is good, on my GPU. I rarely put a plug in for a product, but not only do I feel I owe my low temps to owning a Sager, but using a Zalman-2000 notebook cooler, as well ! It's like sitting an ice tray under your notebook !

It might benchmark in the 80s, but as a quad I bet it would game at 60-70. Unless your running something like GTA IV, even then I doubt its going to be a problem.

Thx devilcm3, just to clear stuff up, on the pic i showed HW monitor displays a maximum of 90 whereas realtemp says 80, so with regard to the tj max you provided, i'm 20 off the limit(not 10),am i right?

The internal maximum temperature before downclock for the Q9200 is indeed 100*C, however the ACPI also has control over when the CPU will downclock. The ACPI in most notebooks has that maximum temperature set to 5*C below the CPU rated maximum. In this case, 95*C.

I am surprised it runs that hot. It looks like you really should go about undervolting your CPU. You should try CPUGenie's undervolt wizard or RMClock. By the way, what fps do you get in GTA IV at 1680 X 1050 resolutions and high settings?

I would replace thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, as well as checking that everything is fine (fan condition, dust, etc.).

Undervolting will also help you out, but the best thing to do is to do both, as GPU temps are also a little high.

Eh, 90° isn't that bad. You're certainly not going to hurt the CPU that far below 100°.

Thank you guys for the useful info! now, one more question, here's my main profile page in rmclock. reading flipfire's tutorial, it says "first lowering the highest multiplier's voltage " so do i first lower the 10X in my case? but that would be 2.66G. eh? or should i simply untick 10X and start to lower 9X first? i'm quite confused! could you plz offer some advice again? THX ;)

10X. Personally, if I'm plugged in, I would force the CPU to run @ the highest multiplier at all times.

@000022 ok so, to be safe, normally i would want to untick 10X and start to lower 9X first?
