hey, i noticed that this caddy has a faceplate on it already, how does it look with the original faceplate of the caddy? does it jut out? as far as i can see its a straight piece of plastic rather than the slanted one found on the original dvd drive.

You can remove the original bezel from your computer and put it on the new one. It's pretty hard to match all the different styles of computers out there so they make them swappable.

To follow up with Hutsady, you can also find the disassembly guide here if you need it: P15xHM_ESM.zip (thanks to user theriko)

Thank you Xotic. I will use those instructions to get the proper face plate. Now to wait for the epic 1$:1gb price ratio on 120+ drives...

Are there usb external enclosures for the optical drive that is getting replaced by the ssd? Or is it just worth buying an external drive?

Yes, there are quite a few. They're typically listed as slimline CD/DVD enclosures. This is an example:

Newegg.com - StarTech SLMSOPTB USB to Slimline CD/DVD Optical Drive Black External Enclosure

That said, if you only ordered with a standard CD/DVD drive, you may just want to get an external Blu-ray drive. They tend to only run $30-50 and it'd give you Blu-ray playback as well.

Yes, you can get enclosures for the optical drive, and they are quite inexpensive. Do a Google product search on "external slim optical drive enclosure" and you'll see what I mean :)
