Anyone yet moded a HD6970 in W860CU/NP8690? I know they fit in the 17 inch version....it uses the same power requirements as the 5870 etc? Was thinking of ordering one to replace my 5870 and selling the 5870 on ebay? Anyone have any advice?

    Everyone keeps asking.

One of you is going to have to man up and be the first to try it.

You'll probably need more than a 120W PSU, as the 6970M is around 85W.

    my 860's psu is 150w

    I think 180w(19v9.5a) for m6970 is ok

If all goes well, I may be able to snag a 6970 by next week and report back!!! According to the Eurocom youtube video YouTube - Mount AMD Radeon HD6970M to EUROCOM Cougar Laptop it should work. I watched it very closely and noticed that the Heatsink is the exact same one as the 460m (look at the 1:00 minute mark in the video). I actually have 3 heatsinks (the 280m heatsink (which is used in the w870cu 6970 upgrade that they had to cut with a dremmel...see below), the 460m heatsink, and the 5870 heatsink) so I should be able to find the "best" fitting one that gives us the lowest temps. From the video, it looks like the w860cu does NOT have USB 3.0 (which gives me hope). :) The only thing that could hold the w860cu back would be some sort of modded BIOS....but I'm assuming that if you are on the latest BIOS you should be good.

Regarding the 120w PSU: The MXM Upgrade site shows that the 120w will be sufficient if you are running a lower wattage CPU....like a 720qm or 820qm. http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/W870.html

The W870 and W860 should be pretty much identical except for the W860 heatsink being a tad smaller (temps might be up a notch). With power consumption @140W in the w870, the w860 will also be on the verge, even with a lower wattage CPU. A 150w brick should be oplenty though.

Those interested, we have a full money back warranty in case it does not work if you agree to this: Trying out cards... and it is checked with us first ;)
