I'd like to install a second hard drive using the optical bay. Does anyone here have any experience using hdd caddies? If so, how do they work? Are they brand-specific or does one size fit all? I have a Sager 7130. Thanks.

    hi and welcome to nbr
as they replace the optical drive im guessing they are all one size. contact your supplier as these are not normally kept as stock and are ordered on a when requested basis.

Sager just added the Optical Drive Caddies to their line up. You will now see there is a option for a Optical Bay Hard Drive. You can then purchase a USB Optical Drive if you need it. :)

Additional Hard Drive in Optical Drive Bay
When Selecting, Optical Drive is NOT Included
    320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache) in Optical Bay +$75
    External USB 2.0 Slim DVD±R/RW Drive +$48
    =$123

if you don't select the options you can get:

    Free internal Combo 8x8x6x4x Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW 5x DVD-RAM 24x CD-R/RW Drive w/Software
    320gb 7200rpm = $50
    external ODD enclosure = $28
    12.7mm sata caddy = $17.50
    = $95.50

not much difference. xoticpc is a good brand.

They are all standard 12.7 MM ODD HDD caddies that you see in a variety of manufacturers laptops, they fit a standard 2.5" notebook HDD / SSD and fit right in with the same bracket.

Thanks. I guess I was confused because every caddy I've seen online has a different list of compatible notebooks even though they are all standard 12.7 mm caddies.
