Hi guys, I was looking for a caddy that can actually fit the faceplate. I know that there's a genuine one but usually the shipping is too expensive to justify it. I'm currently on Brisbane, Australia. I've been trying to search for alternatives in ebay but I've seen several where people report that the faceplate doesn't fit so I'm really afraid of buying one that won't look good. I don't want to waste my money.

    Thanks

I know they sell, but their shipping price is almost the same as the pricing of the caddy (that's what the website says anyway). I'm not paying upwards 90 aud for a caddy.

You can make the faceplate fit. The caddy should come with a flat faceplate which you need to take off, then fit the one from the optical. Some of the tabs may not line up, but you can just remove them. It may need to be stuck on at points, but that's easy enough.

I could do that, but I'd like to leave that as a last resort. If I can't keep everything stock, then sure, but there has to be a caddy that fits, right?

Has anyone had experience with one that just works?

It's not a matter of the caddy itself not fitting, it's just the faceplate. It's really only a cosmetic issue, it would look a bit messy with the standard flat ones the caddy comes with.

I know, which is why I'm looking for something that won't mess up the looks. If function was the only thing that bothered me, I would've already bought one of those cheap chinese flimsy ones. But I want the faceplate, and if I can have it in without actually having to hack something in, I'd rather do that, which is why I posted in the first place.

I know some people don't actually care about the cosmetic thing. Unfortunately, I'm not like that. I saw a post of someone that actually bought some for a p151hm1 about a year ago that found one on ebay that works, but that's no longer on sale so I ask here.

@Jaug1337 hey thx for the suggestion, but those are basically random, so I don't know if they fit my faceplate. Besides, they don't ship those here. However, thanks for the suggestion.

@andytom69 Looks great, but aare you sure that it works for mine? I mean, it says p150 hm, not em. Dunno if there's a difference.

They look like the standard type with flat faceplate. It would fit, but you would need the faceplate off the optical as I suggested.

Edit. Just to explain, the faceplate is separate to the optical or caddy. It is flush with the chassis, and so makes it look cosmetically right. It may need alteration to make it fit, but that can't be seen. The caddy you get from a reseller or builder would be a standard caddy with the flat face removed, and replaced with the clevo one, which is exactly what I have explained you can do yourself.

I might try that. However, the one they sell in Logical Blue One is a full piece of plastic that has a distinct look and does not require a face plate. I imagine that those are the ones that resellers put in laptops. I would love to buy something like that but shipping makes it too expensive.

I'll consider buying a regular one and do what you suggest, I just wanted to get some feedback on one that fits the faceplate without issues beforehand.

I see your point about making it look right. It's annoying there is no standard placing of the tabs, but with minor alterations it looks the same in the end, and also saves precious beer money.
