I was speaking with Justin W. of XOTIC PC support today about the hard drive heating issue that has plagued the NP8660 and I was assured that the issue has been 100% fixed and is covered in the warranty if it does happen to over heat. He said that the older models of hard drives that were over heating and won't be used in the 8662.

So this means it's normal that the NP8660 HDD is overheating and that it's not covered by the warranty?
-
I guess so. I'm really not sure what to think of what he said. But apparently the different hard drives make all the difference?
-
I'd sure like more information on this as well.

Second2Last33, I'm sorry if we had a miss-understanding with the information we discussed on chat. I was not trying to relay that the cooling system has changed on the 8662 or warranty coverage has changed for the 8660. We were discussing that the new Seagate drives (7200.3’s) were supposed to run a little cooler (due to the lower power draw) than the previous generation 7200.2’s that were used when the 8660 was first released. I am sorry for the miss-understanding.
What has changed is Quad Support and the new GTX 260M. These are the only changes to the new 8662. In the event there is any problem with the hard drive or it is not working properly it would be covered under warranty.
You are welcome to email me or come chat with me again tomorrow if you have any questions. -
I read the initial statement to mean "we don't use older, hotter drives anymore in the NP8662 (or NP8660 if it weren't replaced by the newer model" and nothing with "we fixed the notebook and gave it a new model number."
Also, new Intel drivers are a big improvement. I wouldn't be surprised if that + newer, cooler drives (odd that something like WD's 'green' drive isn't available for notebooks) mean the issue's solved in any new notebooks shipping out.
HDD Heating issues fixed with NP8662?
