MY 320 5400 HD runs at like 40-46 idle and like 46-54 load. Comps only a week old, possible they seated it wrong?

From what I hear, that seems quite alright for the Seagate 7200 RPM drives. In fact, mine is about the same.

Btw, what is yours under load?

Any hard drive is safe till it hits 60deg. Mine runs 38-48 with a cooler, though without it it runs 45-60...Tis the hot 200G 7200rpm tho (thinking of upgrading to the 320G 5400rpm...)

I have a cooler... Like i said its always like 44-50C regardless of what I am doing..... (I think it was 50 while I was doing a Defrag or something when I used the Hard Drive)

CPU idles at about 39C and under load I saw it at like 60C I think

Not true, each manufacturer and HD has its own set of values.
Best is to look up the model number/specifications on the web.

A good rule of thumb if your lazy is 60C for a 7200 and about 55C for a 5400.

No, it doesn`t matter how new it is. The hdd area just gets warmer, needs some special cooling, a NB cooler or some holes in the platter :D

are those temps after a bootup idle or after gaming for a while on idle?
I ask because mine is as cpu 28c idle at 3.2ghz overclock cpu 39c and hdd 46c. Considering my components I would think yours is running a little on the warm side.

That was like right after a bootup... like as soon as windows loaded I checked the temps...

Now the HD is 47C and I am currently playing LOTRO...
