What brands of RAM and HDD's are used by Xotic, PNB and Sager themselves? When it comes to HDD's I only really trust western digital but I would be happy knowing that they at least put some decent brand in. Anyone know specifically what brands they use?

Generic ones, so whatever they have around.
XoticPC and PNB are Sager resellers,so what ever Sager uses, that`s what comes with the system.
HDDs are Fujitsus and Seagates mostly.

The RAM is what RAM Sager has certified/tested for the machine. They use major brand chips. The hard drives are usually Seagate or Hitachi. :)

Certification is the key. Not all RAM is created equal and it does not have to do with raw speed. On that note RAM is also much like the world of notebooks. There are a handful of true memory chip makers, then there are many who put their stamp on them.

Hard drives are a bit different, but most of the major brands are actually pretty close in quality and performance test for "like" models.

Well put clintre regarding ram :)

@Eleron, you are correct. Overall most drives presently are Hitachi/Seagate.

To my best knowledge, OCZ, Micron, A-data, Kingston, Corsair,Patriot,Transcend ,Kingmax and Mushkin all work in the 579x according to various users on the forums.Only requirement : 200 pin module.
Hdds also work if they`re in the 2.5inch casing.

Oh you lucky bastard! Wait so does Sager assemble the complete system and then send to the resellers? Or do they send a barebones system that the resellers than assemble with the final parts (video card, ram, hdd)? The latter sounds more likely.

Maybe in that case we can make special requests for the brands. :) I would love a WD HDD.

It may be due to the size of the drive you purchased.

The resellers only take the order and pass it on to sager. The only time (eg) exoticpc see your laptop is if you order custom paint jobs

True... on RAM modules the PCB is always the quality key component.

They all use chips from Micron, Elpida, Quimonda, Samsung, Hynix, but the component that will give stability and compability will be the PCB(plus registers) wich the chips are solded on. That will make an diference on voltage stability, less transmition errors, lower latencies...

Thats what differs Value RAM modules from High Performance RAM modules, on cases that the chips used are from the same model...

On mine I have Trancend 667Mhz 5-5-5-15 modules with Micron D9HNL chips. They can hold 800Mhz 4-4-4-12 stock 1.8V with no problems... very good quality Micron chips and PCB here...

    ;)

Does it really make a noticeable difference from 5-5-5-15 to 4-4-4-12 ,Audigy ?
