So this problem has happened to me before, but it went away without me doing anything and hasn't happened again in a few months until today (Sunday). Last time I used it (friday) everything was running fine and I have not installed anything new since then. I ran the passmark performance test benchmark and my cpu is getting less than 1/3 of the average scores of other people with the same cpu (2000 vs 6500-7500) and gpu scores less than 1/2 of average values. Even simple facebook games are slow and laggy. I updated the AMD drivers but it doesn't seem to help as the whole system seems to be running slow. I ran a virus scan with MSE but I don't know what else i can do to troubleshoot it. Below are my specs.

    Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.120503-2030)

Stupid question but are you on power saver? sometimes you forget it on and everything is reduced by 50%

Also check your temps, if your laptop is overheating it will throttle your CPU / gpu.

Sorry I forgo to mention those too. Windows was on high performance, and the hotkey app that comes with it was on performance also. Was plugged in as computer was 100% the whole time I was trying to troubleshoot it. Temps were low, even from fresh start up it was pretty bad (slow) and gpu temps were in the 60c range. My normal operating temp for the GPU is ~80. I think its a power management problem that isn't on the surface for me to find.

It's almost like even though you're plugged in the laptop thinks you're not. I wonder if it works correctly with battery removed. Maybe defective hardware, but you should be able to see the little plugged in icon in windows, that _should_ eliminate that hypothesis.

You don't mention your hard drive. I had a problem with a slow windows 7 system on an HDD, from one day to the next, slow load, slow shut down, just awful. A chkdsk (check disk) scan solved my issues.

It's not the hard drive because this problem wasn't always there. It happened before and went away doing nothing. I just ran the benchmark again off of battery only and just like that the problem has gone away again. My cpu hit 5000 and GPU hit 2400 but I'd still like to hear ideas you guys might have as to why so I can troubleshoot/fix it next time it happens.

My hard drive problem wasn't always there either. It appeared out of the blue, with no interaction from me.. But it didn't disappear either as yours seems to do. Disk check also corrects file system errors if you select it.
