Just got a new sager 5760 without any OS. Then i tried to install windows XP pro by inserting the XP disk. It started to load and in between updating the blue screen of death appears :( I cant do anything about it!! Im lost, anyone can help?? I heard from a friend it may be ram or video card error. I hope this is not the case as im in Australia and would cost me a bomb to resend to the US. Someone please help.

Sure! Make sure your XP copy is SP2. The thing is some SATA/bluetooth drivers are only available with SP2.

I went the exact same road last year and I was freaking up.

As soon as I made the install with the Windows SP2 CD, all went juist fine.

If you can work out and find whatever drivers are missing from the XP CD, you can use nLite to create a new installation CD. I used this method to create a W2K install CD for a desktop with SATA.

You can not only slipstream all the drivers provided with the computer but also add in all the Windows patches and updates including SP2 if your XP is an older version (but this might all need a DVD not CD).

It could be the RAM, but you can easily test it by using:
    - MemTest86+ (download and burn the bootable ISO, then let it autoboot to scan for errors)

If there are no errors that are listed during the first run (it loops infinitely until you hit ESC), then your RAM and CPU cache is fine.

In the BIOS, make sure that the settings are set to default and/or simple configs:
    - disable firewire, bluetooth, serial, etc...

    Then try XP CD again.

It depends on which XP you have:
    - Home or Pro or Media Center
    - OEM or Retail

You can use someones elses SP2 XP CD as long as it is the same type as yours (which corresponds with you COA Sticker - Certificate of Authenticity).

Example: (if you have XP Home Retail COA Sticker) you can use someone else's XP Home Retail SP2 CD.

    is it legit?

the COA is a sticker with the CD-Key printed on it

OEM Version (usually place on systems case):
    [IMG] or [IMG]
    _______________________________________________

Retail Version (usually in the retail box):

If you have neither of these (or lost yours), then I would not condone using any pirated version.

Download SP2 service pack from Microsoft then use nLite to merge this into your existing XP. Or, if you can find the SATA driver, use the special driver option early in the XP installation.

Heh don't worry, it's really a software issue. If you don't have an SP2 CD, then just try John's suggestion. I'd recommend merging the full SP2 patch.

This is definitely a good idea, I forgot about slipstreaming... haven't done it in a long time.

BTW.. if you have a "backup" copy of Windows with SP2.. it was not working for me at first. When it says "press any key to boot from CD" wait for a bit and it auto-boots from CD. Don't press any key to boot from CD.. Then it works.

Thanks guys for the help!! Mine is a win XP cd which i bought 2 years ago from ebay for my desktop. It is not SP 2 and there is no case in the package and no COA :( I hope it is not a pirated version as i paid over AUD$100 for it arghhhh as im a computer newbie 2 years ago i could not even tell the difference. Hope im not screwed by the seller. If its a pirated version do you think i should intall it? I just hope that its original version as it works flawlessly on my desktop. I will try John's method by downloading SP 2. Hopefully my vista cd will arrive soon so to avoid the hassle of changing the OS later.

well the COA is required to get it repaired in a retail store.

If you were able to use it before and activate it, that means that it probably was legitimate and the CD-Key was never used.

So you can still try it.

when I got my Vista COA it had these 2 holes worn out off the Holographic "Genuine" ribbing.. after seeing the picture posted here my guess that was on purpose.. to me it just looks like it was really bad packaging, that had worn the paper off the ribbon.
