HIDEvolution P750

Hey gang.

This is an initial post on specs for my P750 I recently puchased last month from HIDEvolution.

The experience was absolutely fantastic. They answered all my questions. They were not interested into socking the highest price of components, but were willing to help me make the system the way I wanted.

They gave all the pros and cons to all their service, their parts, and gave details on what went behind the scenes on building the system. I worked with @Donald@HIDevolution for the initial sales. He was exceptionally knowledgeable on the services, back end processing and was willing to answer questions on every part of the sale. He's an exceptionally busy individual, so if you do talk to him be at least serious on purchasing but he is a great guy to work with.

For tech support I worked with @Zoltan@HIDevolution who has been a pleasure to work with. He helped nail down some initial issues I had with the system with the NVME drive (which I will explain later).

My system specs were:

I purchased specifically:
LCD 15.6" Full HD (1920x1080) 144Hz~7ms IPS-level 72% NTSC Matte
Prema Custom BIOS - Latest Updated Version
Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU + GPU, and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads (Delidded)
GeForce RTX 2070
Intel i7 9700K
Memory 32G DDR4/2666MHz
Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 2TB NVMe
Wifi: Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 2x2 w/ Bluetooth 5.0
Windows 10 (Version 1903 - Professional)

I put a somewhat reliable sound meter to the laptop as well, held about 6 inches directly over the keyboard.

Idle: 30Db (for most light work like videos, web browsing, day to day work)
Fan Stage 1: 38Db (What it tends to sit for light games or similar)
Fan Stage 2: 44Db (What it tends to sit for most games)
Fan Stage 3: 48Db (What it tends to sit for demanding games)
Full Fans: 56Db

So it's somewhat noticeable with full fans. A nice whir, no grind or anything else. The fans themselves are fairly quiet all told. Acceptable for a gaming laptop.

Those were the things that were great.

Now for the things that were not so great.

First, my laptop arrived in sleep mode. It was acknowledge it was a mistake on their end, no moving parts were included, and it only powered on when I flipped open the lid, but it was a surprising unfortunate event as laptops should be shipped without the battery in them for safty reasons if nothing else. Again, not a big deal, no damage done, I had the 3 year warranty, they acknowledged the issue, and immediately followed up with any concerns. They were right on it and I have zero issues with this and wanted to make that clear. It just had to be mentioned in-case others may run into this, though I highly expect it was an unfortunate one off.

Secondly, the Clevo Control Center has an unfortunate inability to save the settings for the keyboard lights and some other features. I dug into the config files and there's no setting there either. This is only a mild annoyance since you just run the control center in the background with the setting and it's good to go. There's no overhead that I can identify.

Third, the Intel AX 200 drops occasionally from my Linksys AC router. I believe this is more router related than the Intel AX, but there's currently known driver issues between the AX cards and the AC routers. Not the fault of Intel. Not the fault of Linksys. Just happens to be that no one can fully agree on the standards and we stuffer for it. So once everyone who sits on high agrees on what the standards are, the drivers will likely address any weaknesses. But I do want people to know with the AX 200 card, there can be some drops on networking where it just drops and immediately reconnects again. It happens maybe 1-3 times a week. Not a big deal.

Forth, the laptop can not handle the heat dissipation of high density NVMe drives like the 1TB or 2TB models. It just can't. They do include a strip of thermal tape on the drive to keep it cool, and while I am most positive this would work on 128, 256, or even 512G drives, 1TB or higher it just can't keep up.

Strongly suggest that as the thermal for the drive at the start of this post is what my thermals are after installing the heat sink on my NVMe. Strongly strongly suggest this for anyone who uses NVMe drives.


Other than that, just the normal cleanup of the crap that's telemetry for NVidia, Windows 10, and Intel.

There's obviously more you can find with just doing searches for telemetry removal but some require a more advanced technological background not everyone has and could potentially damage your windows 10 install. So please use as your own risk.

The two above should be more than safe but only use the registry editor in windows 10 if you are comfortable using it, and always make a backup of your registry prior to doing so.

For making backup images of your laptop, I strongly suggest Macrium Reflect and to save disk images off to external storage. Make a USB boot drive (or DVD boot image) for restoration and keep somewhere safe.

I also purchased the external dvd/bluray burner. While it does not come with burning software direct from HIDEvolution, it does come with it as part of the bluray drive itself. Mine came with Cyberlink Media Suite 10.

So, that's what I have right now, very happy, stays exceptionally cool.

To get access to everything on the bottom requires removing 5 screws, but both NVMe drives, both 2.5" bays, and 2 of the 4 DIMM slots are availalble from underneath as well as the MXM for the CPU and GPU and fans and heatsinks. Makes for cleaning and upgrades great.

I recommend cleaning out the fans every 3-6 months, depending on the dust/pets.

I'll post more details for anyone who asks specifics.

I would highly recommend a Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC, or LTSB. You will see much lower CPU utilization and less ram usage sitting on the desktop. And most of all high scores, and higher FPS in games.

Also, did you disable V-Sync in Skyrim or Fallout 4? If not they'll just render at 60FPS. This is why your GPU temps are so good. I am running Fallout 4 at 1080P 154HZ refresh rate and it is excellent!

The high refresh rate in Skyrim and Fallout 4 can be a little buggy at times. in the first cut scene in Skyrim the horse and buggy riding down the trail toward your own execution will actually crash and flip upside down because of the refresh rate. it is insane.

 

Properly axed Windows services and telemetry in Home or Pro can be very close LTSC, but how will you install DCH drivers w/o Win Store?

 

Still locked in Skyrim and Fallout 4. I disabled vsync in Fallout 4 and the game delay timings got all messed up for me even if my fps hit 2000+ in the opening screen and 150+ gamewide (insane!). Skyrim seemed to have a lot of shearing. So I put them both back to vsync. I prefer a stable gaming experience and smoother environmentals over a much faster fps.

Deus Ex however is rocking at 100+ fps for the win.

I'll check on Win 10 Enterprise and research differences. Can't complain with the scores currently.

Even running all 8 cores hard transcoding video for several hours hasn't raised my CPU over 83c..

I've gotten my GPU for testing was Borderland's 2 with the VSYNC runaway bug and that was at 69c.

I'm sure some things can stress them slightly more, but still pretty happy with the cooling.

Borderlands 2 unlocked FPS and no vsync put my GPU to 99% pretty much most combat scenes and I still didn't see much with regards to thermals.

 

Turn vsync on in the nvidia control panel, and force vsync off in the game by editing that cfg file. Then set maximum frame rate to 3 FPS lower than your refresh rate in rivatuner so 141fps.

gameplay will be buttersmooth. With no problems. And gsync will work.

 

You know I wondered the same thing before I installed LTSC 2019. Installed nvidia driver, I am pretty sure I downloaded it from the MS website. My NVCP works fine though.

I had trouble with windows 10 Pro believe it or not.

LTSC has NVCP listed and installed in seconds.

 

Damn I didn't know that! I went with Whatever MSFT said in their docs.
So, DCH driver installs w/o any issue, both Intel or Nvidia?

 

Yes it works perfectly on LTSC. DCH driver installed perfectly for me. No issues, and my NVidia control panel works perfect.

 

@jc_denton Is the guy who got me on LTSC. And im pretty sure he is also running a GTX1080.

How did your DCH install go with LTSC? considering there is no Microsoft store. Mine was perfectly smooth.

 

I'm still using W10 Home on my BGA so I thought LTSC was useless since I've enabled most options in Home and made it almost like Pro or Enterprise with less bloat.
