After a lot of deliberation I finally took the plunge and purchased this system from HIDevolution today. I did have a question about 1x vs 2x 330w PSUs that come with the system. I would have picked up the system regardless, but would like to know what kind of flexibility there is.

Is it possible through undervolting / power limits to keep the system in a state where it won't go beyond the 330w limit of a single PSU? The general Idea I'm having is to have the 2x PSU setup at my desk, while still being able to grab a single PSU when traveling with the system.

Yes. You will be able to get by with one PSU for low overhead tasks such as word processing and other office types of activities. As your load increases, you may see your battery draining to make up the difference between what you need to draw and what you have available.

Just out of curiosity, I bought the P775TM-G with the same specs from Obsidian PC (love it by the way) but mine comes only with 1x330W PSU.

What is the difference with your model? Why do you have 2xPSU?

The second PSU is intended for systems having both the 2080 and 9900K to ensure enough headroom for overclocking.

at stock i wouldnt expect any issues even under load. only once you want to go crazy with overclocking will 2 PSUs become more pertinent.

You will be fine, the Clevo 2080 has a 150W TDP, and the 9900K should stay under 150W unless you are running AVX applications.

On my Clevo, I do have both the I9 9900k and the 2080RTX, they do run hot (about 80/82 degree with Metro Exodus on Ultra and RTX on), but never had problems with one PSU so far.

Actually there isn't any plug available for a second PSU anyway.

Why having 2 heavy PSU then?

    Ah, that make sense!

I am curious to know how far I can go with overclocking then!

    Awesome!

Thank you for the responses everyone. I was hoping the 2nd PSU was to grant more headroom for overclocking. I'm actually more going for the opposite with undervolting and possibly underclocking the CPU/GPU in an attempt to keep the fans to a reasonable noise level. I was hoping to keep a PSU at multiple location so was happy to buy two of them regardless of whether they were required.

From what I hear in this thread and other threads, stock powerdraw of the 9900k + RTX2800 nearly surpass the power that's provided from a single 330W PSU, which leaves no headroom for increasing the voltage on either.

There is an adapter that plugs into your clevo board that allows for multiple PSU inputs: https://www.originpc.com/gearshop/categories/Power Accessories/products/2936

Obviously this would add a lot of bulk to traveling with the system, so my dream is to create two power/performance profiles, one for when I'm using two adapters with a cooling pad at my desk where noise is not an issue, and another for when I'm at LAN parties where I only would have one adapter and would prefer to keep the noise to a reasonable level.

The stock 330w bricks are pretty robust.

I'm contemplating on buying the same! Not sure if I should go through XoticPC, HIDEvoluation, or directly through Sager -- from the way its laid out, it does appear HIDEvolution can do a lot more tweaking to the laptop before shipping it - but how is your experience with the company so far?

    Any trouble with overheating?

What kind of user are you? Do you intend to be overclocking to the edge and running 24/7 clocks to the limits?

Not sure if this would apply to your situation, but what I did is I mounted the two power supplies underneath my desk using some simple metal brackets I got from the hardware store. I’m guessing you were asking about a single power supply because you don’t want all of your desk space taken up by both power supplies, so this could be an alternative. For on the go, I purchased the 700 W power supply from Eurocom, which stays in my backpack.

That's a lot better than farting around with dual 330W and adapter. But, they're also insanely expensive.

Also fine for personal use but not suitable for the corporate environment due to lack of official safety certificates.

They are expensive and time consuming to get, so not worth it for a niche product.

A few more things about the 780W.

It has a little fan that is surprisingly loud. Not much of an issue if you are using headphones. Without headphones the fan makes noise all of the time even when doing basic tasks like surfing the web, plus the fan curve is poor and there is constant up/down oscillation and it is incredibly annoying. I’ve had people in the same room as me comment on how annoying the sound is. I have to be conscious of the environment I’m using it in because of this. And I’m not gaming or anything demanding, just using basic programs for work. Most of the time it isn’t an issue because other noise helps to cover the fan noise. But there have been a few times where I was in a quiet shared space like a library and it was inappropriate. When gaming a more demanding title the fan ramps up. Combine that with the already loud fans of the laptop and the noise is nearing extreme. I prefer using the 2 x 330W at home so I don’t have to hear it.

The LCD screen makes an annoying periodic flash when switched off and left plugged in. And for the information displayed on the LCD, I remember reading one of the read outs was inaccurate. Both of these issues may have been resolved with a revision. I believe I could have sent mine back for a fix but would have had to pay for shipping both ways to Canada, so not worth it to me.

I still like the power supply. It’s a lot more convenient for travel and fits nicely in my Everki Titan backpack. I often have to setup in different desk and sizing situations and it’s much easier for that and takes up less real estate. It’s nice being able to look at the screen to see how many watts you’re using in real time. It’s an impressive piece of hardware. I do a lot of LAN parties and fellow geeks love it.

    Hey guys,

How do I reset the BIOS on this machine?
Fn+D seems not to be working.

If the fn+d doesn't clear cmos, you'll need to remove the cmos battery by taking out the keyboard, disconnect the battery, then hold power on for 30s. Afterwards reconnect the battery and try to power on.

Remember to disconnect the power to the laptop and take out the actual battery before doing all of this.

The link illustrates how to get acces to where the battery is.

But before you do that, did you
    1 press and hold fn+d
    2 power the system on
3 wait aprox 2 min whilst holding fn+d

In and out with the big battery takes too long time during tweaking. See also tape mod.
