Has anyone tried to haggle down the price with XoticPC or any other reseller? What did it for them?
-
I just found out something great... Check out this chat with an XoticPC rep:
Xotic Rep: Welcome to our real-time support chat. How can I help you today?
Joey: Can I change internal system components such as CPU, RAM, and HDD's without voiding a warranty if I buy the Sager NP9850?
Xotic Rep: Good evening Joey
Joey: Hello
Xotic Rep: Sure, with Sager you can change any of the components inside without voiding the warranty
One of the reasons we love that company so much
Joey: So if I buy my laptop with a P8700 and decide to upgrade it after a couple months if its not good enough, can I sell it?
Xotic Rep: Of course. That is actually what I reccomned to most people. As Quad technology becomes more prevalant in the industry and software supports it more readily then i suggest to most customers that they take out a dual core and replace it with a quad
Selling the CPU would be easy
Joey: Ok great thanks
You can buy a stock NP9850 and sell the CPU, HDD, and RAM without voiding warranty... -

Wow that's cool beans... however please make sure before posting any reps names you ask them! They can get in trouble if they haven't authorized it
-
yea, don't get xoticpc people in trouble. They're nice people and they don't deserve to get put out into the soup. I wouldn't call that haggling either so much as reclaiming / minimizing a loss incurred by buying the lower cpu.

No he was saying it is really cool that Sager warranties are not voided by trading parts out... in particular the CPU

VERY nice to know.

The resellers' margins are thin enough as is that I doubt any one of them will haggle the price down with you just on general principles; however, many of them (incl. XoticPC and Powernotebooks, if I'm not mistaken) will price match a bona-fide price quote you get from another reseller.
-
Price-matching is about as good as you'll be able to do, assuming you can find a cheaper posted price elsewhere, that is.
-
@Topic: Yea, Xotic's prices are the lowest I've seen, so I don't know how much you'll be able to haggle with them.
-
I just want to know if anyone has done it and if I should try it... What should I say?
-
It's worth a shot but don't expect anything, the best you can do is probably price match like others have said.
-
you can haggle with eurocom but you will end up back where you started because there prices are a little high to begin with.
-
xoticpc,PNB,...etc...... haggle waste of time
try:
rjtech.com
pcmicrowork.net -
PNB and Xoticpc guys are in this forums too, by the way.
..... -
i know xD.... what is PNB?
unless rjtech can give me a NP9262 with SLI 9800M GTX, E8600, 4GB RAM, 250GB 7200RPM HD for 1900 or less then I probably dont want to go with them... no use price matching with rjtech as i would buy it without cpu ram and hd's....
EDIT: Its actually 2 320GB 7200RPM.... Should I go for the NP9262? -

Haggle with those companies not worthing, they maximum will give you 30$ discount if you are so lucky!!!!! -
and you still have not removed the reps name -
In this economy it wouldn't hurt to try to save a couple bucks by haggling the price down; but as many posters have already mentioned, it would be hard to get the price any lower than what is already advertised on the website. I think XoticPC has some student discounts/offers if you are a student. Good luck though.

I bought 2 lappies at once from them, and if I remember, I think they gave me a small discount... or at least free shipping or something. But yeah, thin margins, don't expect much.
It is cool that warranty coverage survives upgrades though. Of course the upgraded parts won't be warrantied... and any cascade failures caused by the upgrades won't be covered either... but still, it is nice that it doesn't completely void your warranty to upgrade. -
Personally, I don't mind paying enough to keep a good company/industry alive. Especially when they'er already selling them with such low margins. Haggling $30 on a $2,000 laptop just doesn't sound like a reason to do business with someone. I'd rather have that brand new $2,000 supported by a company who stays in business and aims to keep me happy.
