Hi guys
I just got a Korean rebranding of a 650SE Clevo from a company called Hansung Computers
It's about 300-400$ cheaper than in the US too!!
Here's the unboxing
Let me know if you would like to see something else
-
Nice unboxing. LTT eat your heart out.
Not sure which US Clevo resellers/rebranders you're comparing to (some of the boutiques are extremely overpriced) but Xotic PC and Eurocom are both cheaper and Eurocom has an additional 10% edu discount. I can't read Korean so maybe I missed something but I don't see a configurator either.
BTW you have the P650SG. The P65xSE is 970M and P65xSA is 965M.Last edited: Apr 27, 2015 -
What's the vBIOS version as shown in GPU-Z?
-
I'll post the BIOS info later today (when I find it hehe, no idea where it is)
thanks for clarification, I was comparing it to laptops from reflexnotebooks and their model with the same card was 650SE
The price for this model was about 1700$ and it was only 1350$ for a 970m model. Now, that's with tax and shipping included!
XoticPC had a comparable 980m model for 1680$ before tax/levy and shipping that I would have to pay. Even buying locally without the shipping it would still be slightly more due to tax.
The only downside is that I didn't get Witcher 3 bundle, but instead they added an xbox 360 controller for free.
All in all, I didn't expect to get such a great deal outside of the US especially since hardware is usually pricier in Korea -
True, it's a pointless comparison because you should be buying locally anyway to avoid duty. Eurocom seems to be the best deal in the US due to no tax and 10% edu discount plus the shipping is reasonable.

Sounds too much like 'Hanson', but hey, if you got a good deal and it works as it should, all the more power to you.
-
lol and Prostar sounds too much like...prostate?
j/k
anyhoo, I opened up the laptop and discovered a few surprises. Also ran benchmarks

Hey! Your video is still being processed. Looking forward to seeing the surprises you found inside.

hope it worked now. I basically found a bunch of scotch tape holding the cables and a thick piece of some sort of a clay thing holding m.2. no idea what either one is for. I'm planning to remove the tape though as it doesn't seem safe
-
The purple "clay" is thermal interface material. It's meant to transfer heat from the m.2 drive and dump it onto the chassis. You could check if there's sufficient contact between the material and the chassis when closed.
Regarding the tape, I had an HP laptop that ran way hotter than the 650SG which also used similar adhesives to secure wires and had no problem with them for 3 years. But hey, it's your rig, if you're concerned with the possibility of long term problems you can always replace them. I would suggest something heat-resistant, non-conductive, and non-permanent so you don't put any undue tension on the wires if/when you need to move them.

thanks! I was thinking of replacing them with heat/electricity resistant tape that they sell here as I'm just worried the tape will melt if I keep using GPU a lot.
Also the GPU bios is: 84.04.1F.00.E1 according to nVidia inspector -

So long as it's factory tape and not something random they added in it will be non electrically conductive and heat resistant.

Is the Bottom Panel made of plastic or metal?

It's a high quality plastic.
