I will try and make this quick, since so much has been said already about this out dated computer as of now. The laptop came with 7 disc, carrying case, DVI/Serial adapter, smart power supply, Vista booklet, manual, and telephone cord. It doesn’t have Finger print reader, HDMI, eSATA or a TV Tuner. It does however have 4GB RAM, 8800m GTX, T9300, outstanding 1920x1200 HD display and very sleek design. The hard drive is only 250GB 5400RPM, grandmothers can’t be perfect when ordering something for someone else, but I love my gift and hope to have it a long time.

Display * Nice and sharp! The monitor is very bright if you set the settings to high. Black colors rock on this notebook, and there is no doubt black is black and not grey pretending to look black. I really see why people would opt for a WUXGA; everything is just perfect on a 17” notebook. No need to adjust DPI, nothing is too small. Video viewing is truly a blast, even when you’re not watching a Blu-Ray movie. CoD 4? Wow!

Keyboard * No flex, but I realize I have to apply more pressure to the keys compared to my D810.

Fans * this has been a topic for sometimes, and seems trivial to what is expected of the noise. On battery power, balanced mode, or power saver mode the fans run on low. The fans are not audible to me running on low. When plugged in, I’ll hear the fans rev up to medium for one second every 20 to 40 minutes. When on battery power, I will hear them rev up to medium every 10 minutes or so. Only then, would you realize you have fans blowing. If the fans are running on medium, you will notice they are blowing and if you’re not gaming, you don’t want to have that noise (no whine, just noticeable) bother you. Mine for some reason was running on medium for no apparent reason, so I rebooted my computer and everything was set back to low. Mind you, nothing on my computer is over clocked and my notebook will be used mainly for video watching, video editing, music listening, music editing. So far, the fans stay on low while doing these tasks.

Speakers * Well, I did expect more from them LOL! It’s cool; I have a set of 2.1 speakers that take care of the built-in. But I did expect much more on the loudness level than the D810.

Battery * I’ve not timed the battery life of this computer yet, but I’m sure it’s more than I expected. I run off of battery power for the most (just trying to cycle it up), and it seems to last a couple of hours at least.

Camera * its there, don’t use it really but it does have a nice resolution if needed.

Palm rest * There is definitely vibration! Nothing that’s alarming, just that it does vibrate. The right side of the unit is the only place I feel it get slightly warm. Never hot, just a little warm.

Power supply * The power supply is whisper quiet, and you have to pick it up and listen with one ear next to it to notice that it does give off a low buzz. It also stays cool to luke warm and does not get hot. I have not played any games thus far for more than an hour, so I’m basing that on how I’ve used my computer as of yet.

Overall, I’m very happy with my laptop especially the mobility of it. It’s actually smaller than I expected, much thinner than I could have guessed with all it has in it. I love the looks, feel and especially the performance. All in all, a great notebook! I posted my BIOS version, just for reference as I believe it controls the way my fans operate (silent most of the time).

Nice review, though I think I should point out one thing, it seems that your laptop is on a piece of cloth, you might want to remove it because it will heat things up a bit.

    Good eye.

I would highly recommend to ONLY use the notebook on clean, hard, flat surfaces to avoid vent blockages... which would result in overheats.

Or better yet, get a notebook cooler like a Zalman NC2000.

You guys are too good! I put the cloth over the table, just to hide how bad it looked LOL! And it is true, because after adding the cloth is when I noticed my fans ran at medium. The cloth has since been removed after taking the pictures, and the table is nice a flat. Everything is running as should, but cloth should not be used to set the laptop on, thanks for the replies!

Man! I really hate adding you rep just because you brought it up first. That should have been the first thing I did, when you mentioned the cloth having an effect on the temperature. Although I removed the cloth after taking the pictures, my fans did kick in while having the computer on the cloth and I didn’t know why. So to you sir, you deserve all the rep I can give you, thanks!

I did leave out the fact that I did a clean install of Vista Ultimate, and formatted the Vista Premium that was shipped with the unit.

I didn’t order it; my grandmother did who lives in Germany. She was going to get me the 5920G from Acer, and then she sent me the list of computers I can have that were not over the 1300 Euro limit she wanted to spend. Of course seeing this one, it was no doubt it was the best bang for the buck! Acer 5920G?? Man, I feel so lucky. :p I thought she was ordering the notebook from powernotebooks.de, but there is no way that is possible considering the notebook is a “Hyrican” brand. I know I don’t have any warranty, because the bottom of the unit had two stickers placed on the bottom over the two screws that you must loosen in order to get the back plate off. Both had “Quality control, do not remove” on them, and of course I did to take a look at what was inside my computer. My uncle who lives in Germany brought the computer back in the bag it was shipped with, and it doesn’t say where it came from. It was however, a discontinued purchase and that’s why she was able to get it within her budget. The 5796 has more options, so you should be looking at it. I got this one because it was cheap, and the forum members advised me this was still a good buy compared to the 5796 if bought at a much cheaper price.

    Did you notice my keyboard?
