    Hi
I have a laptop model D9T and Product code is D900T.The hard disk is not detected in the bios.I suspect the cable which connects the hard disk and the mother board to be faulty. The product no on the cable is: 43-D90T0-OAO

Great it would be if you let me know as where this cable would be available for purchase.I live in the UK.

Is there any other way to find if is the problem with the cable or motherboard.I removed the HD and installed on to a different laptop and it worked fine.so the HD seems to be absolutely fine

Are you trying to install XP on it? The issue you'd be having is that XP doesn't seem to have SATA drivers. I had a cousin receive my new NP5793 for which I opted for no OS as I have my own copies of XP and Vista, and she struggled with it for a while.

Your options are to either disable Native SATA support in the BIOS, which should be somewhere in there, I didn't look for it, install XP, and then reinstall the drivers, or you can slipstream SATA drivers into your installation using this great software called nLite.

I'd link you to the process, but it seems I need about fifteen posts before I can do that. Just google SATA support in XP and you'll get tons of sites about this.

Install the other HD from the other laptop and see what happens.

Start the laptop without any harddisk, does that make a difference? Like startup beeps etc?

Can you boot from CD with the laptop? if so run a diagnostic test on that laptop (see manuf. website).

Inspect the cable or test the wiring, pin by pin.

The laptop dosent have a sata drive. The bios has only ATA and Raid mode.where iam using a single HD ATA mode.I tried installing xp through F6 downloading drivers in a floppy. But basicclly it dosent detect the HD in the bios.I suspect the cable which connecte the HD and the mother board or it could be the hardisk controller on the mother board. Is there any utilities to fing the working condition of the mother board controller.

It is very possible the HDD cable has gone bad. Another issue may be a couple of the pins from the promise controller that hold it to the motherboard may have come loose from the board. This was common back in the 4.x series and some 5.x revision boards.

The Hard disk is absolutely fine.I installed in a different laptop and it works fine. The laptop boots up with the XP CD in without any beeps while booting.inspecting the cable not looking one to one connection ,bit confusing. In case the pins from the promise controller is loose on the mother board.how to sort it ,do i need to remove the mother board and resolder it. I cant see any utilities to run on the laptop to isolate the problem.Great it would be if find any utilities.Thankyou very much.

I Brought the new sata cable 43-D90T0-OAO, which connects the HD and the mother board and connected. But still the Hd is not detected in the bios.Sometimes it says
IRQ not configured-PCI Network controller on motherboard BUS:0A ,Device05, function:00. Press F1 to resume F2 to setup..Is it something to do with the bios.Do i need the up date the bios.

i recommend to slipstream the SATA drivers into your XP Pro CD using nLite

its quite simple, and you wont have to deal with the floppy crap ever again. ;)

make sure to disable RAID in your BIOS.

    that should work.
