    Hi Guys,
Im waiting on my sager np9850 and am wondering what is going on with
the hard drives.Ive read many threads from posters with explanations as to what is going on.Not seen any Definitive answer(not from the Manufacturer).Would have at least heard from Xoticpc,Kobalt,Powernotebooks ect re this issue by now.
Has none of these suppliers questioned the manufacturers on these problems
or are they a rare thing. It doesnt seem to be specific to Seagate but they seem to have the greatest problems(expect so as they are the biggest sellers).
Here is a request to Notebook Sellers,Please give us a Definitive answer as to what the H*** is going on.What i want to know for sure is whats happening with the Drive when this clicking occurs.
    Xotic,Kobalt ect please reply.
    Thanks for reading this .
    Les

i dont think theres been any problems with the comanche sli from kobalt.
pman was one of the first to get one in the uk from kobalt so ill point him in this direction.
kobalt use western digital HD and i think the main culprit are the seagate HD

If you're dissatisfied, you should contact your reseller directly.

People forget that computers and all their components are highly sensitive pieces of equipment. And no matter how clean the environment is and how QC watches the production once in a while there will be issues.

I have one of the Seagate HD that makes the noise and all I did was contact XoticPC and they in turn got a hold of Sager and I now have a new HD on the way...Done

Seagate , Sager, and Xotic still make and will continue to make great products and I will not hesitate in the future to deal with them again.Don't let the few problems people have stop you from getting what is most consistently a quality product.

    Hi,
If you look at the posting pages 116 of 9850 owners lounge onwards regarding this clicking, some say its happening on all makes of drives. So what im saying is Why are the resellers still offering these when there still appears to be an issue. If its normall then tell us its nothing to worry about and what it really is.But what ive read is that this clicking is related to freezing and stuttering. You might say just send it back. But when you are an international Customer, thats costing us dearly.I see fatpanda had his two drives replaced and is still experiencing click of Death problems.
All im asking is that someone come clean and let us have the facts.
As i have my one comming from Xoticpc, maybe Justin would like to chime in and say something.Dont get me wrong,i dont believe for one minute its a reseller problem, but they can at least get some imfo from a manufactuer
    that we cant.
Still looking forward to getting mine.
    Thanks

I have WD drives in mine and have no clicking at all,

Personally I wouldnt use Seagate drives as i believe they are inferior drives, I have never had any problems using WD ones and these are no exception

Seagate drives are well known for being rubbish with clicking etc in all pcs they are used in not just the M980Nu

I dont think there is any "coming clean" required, its already known that Seagate drives are unrelieable, and as yet i havent seen anyone with WD's click as standard when the drive isnt failing.

Thats difference seagate ones click even when not failing

I owned up to 5 of these drives at one point and still have 2 of them. None of them ever clicked. I used to own a pair of WD 320 Scorpio black drives and they definitely made more noise than these Seagates. I guess everyone's experience is just different.

Haha its true, I've got an external eSATA enclosure running a 750GB Seagate 3.5" HDD, which clicks now and then, had a heart attack the first time I heard it. The Western Digitals Ive got left over from my M17 seem pretty solid though, and definately pretty quiet, could only hear them when I had my head against the chassis. The Blu-ray drive was infinitately louder!

it's certainly been p****ing me off, however as noted above thats 4 seagate drives i've had - all clicking. All 4 were in raid 0 setup. the 3rd drive which was not on raid did not/does not click.

also disregard my statements regarding the clicking stopping once the hdd's get to around 40% full. As it is back with a vengence.

it even causes freezing of movies, surfing, music etc etc.

i will never use seagate again.

also i can't wait to get my windows 7 upgrade - to experiment with no raid 0 to see if that stops the click of death.

Ok.. I have had the clicking / knocking / beeping/ heat issue with the Seagate 500 HD. Yesterday I received a replacement HD and there is absolutely no clicking / knocking / beeping/ heat issue with this new drive..It runs completely silent and the temps range from 32-46.

So for all those people that say the noise is normal and I was one of them because I was told it was, IT IS FALSE!

So now I speak from experience... If you are having issues with a noisy Seagate Hard Drive get a replacement!

Mine started out of the box, also RAID 0, clicking only affects web pages so far. Slowed down a great deal when I got a hard drive monitoring gadget?!?!?! Also happens less if at all in Windows 7. I don't know what this is, but it has to be something deeper than just drive manufacturer. I have been told by Xoticpc to contact Sager Tech support. I haven't heard of contacting tech support 3 weeks after owning a PC since I worked for Gateway.
