-.-' should just make a "Grandhero's laptop problems thread and sticky it". Has your hdd only recently started running this hot?

disable background junk that is accessing the HDD needlessly.

but that temp is still pretty good as long as it not constantly running at that temp.

I have also a 200gb 7200rpm HDD and mine runs at around 49-52 Celcius on normal load but after 2 hours gaming I didn't really checked yet but if the game is hard on the HDD I think (and im not an expert) that 63 C is quite normal.
Like 5-10 mins after your gaming session, how's the temp ?

    HOT damm! That is hot!

Let's see, my M570TU with heavy gaming tops out at 51°, my HP HDX16T after running a movie from the HDD is 44° and my HP DV7T after
running a movie is a cool 38°. In fact neither HDD in the DV7T has gone above 41° and the LCD is closed 24│7 with the computer mounted
vertical on the back of a dresser 1 inch from the wall.

Yea, I would say 63° is hot. Certainly exceeds the max temp on any of my HDD's.

Most Hard Drives are rated at 55C, though many can hit above that perfectly fine and still run, I think that 62C is still a bit warm...

AFTER quite some time of idling basically.. just browsing the net its at 52C.

I havent noticed it this hot for a while - only reason I even checked the temps was because my hand started sweating real bad.

@ gophn, no backround junk EVER runs on my system :) usually have about 50 procceses total on vista.

So should I be concerned with this temp? getting mixed responses.

    >.> if your temps are in the 50c range while not gaming and in the 60c range while gaming, there's nothing wrong with the hdd, the rest of your system is causing your hdd to heat up. I don't see anyway to fix that other than using a cooling pad.

I recommend a zalman nc2000, it keeps my hdd (200GB 7200rpm) at 35-45 idle, and never goes above 55 load :)

I also get this with my 7200rpm 200gb HD. the highest I got was while playing AoC, with a defragment program running in the background, and that was 63C :D
but normally its 55C max when gaming.

Have you run a hdd diagnostic to see if anything's showing up as marginal or failing? It sounds like when you put it under a heavy load, something's generating more friction than it should, heating up the drive.

Hee, hee! I dunno, I think ArmageddonAsh probably still holds the record for the number of different problem postings per hour! :D
