Hey I have a m860tu clevo and I installed a 1tb drive into a DVD bay sata adaptor and ive had some trouble.

The hard drive shows up properly in Bios with smart etc etc

The hard drive shows up properly in windows formatting (from install DVD) and shows the correct size..

The hard drive even shows up in windows but with a size of 0 even after formatting it in windows install dvd formatting. So I have to format it again I guess to use it in windows so I click format in windows.

and then windows crashes :( WATCHGARDE error etc.

Whats up with this drive? do I need a SATA driver of some sort. hmm

I notice its making repeating "read sounds over and over"

Any one know what I should check.. thanks.

Usually when there are noises made that is indicating a bad hard drive. I'd suggest putting it in another hard drive bay to see if you get any better luck. Put your primary drive in the optical bay drive and new drive in the normal HDD bay. See if you get the same results or if it works normally. You'll will need to change the HDD boot order in the BIOS once you do this so the drive with the OS boots first.

If it's been that long you probably can't get a refund, but try going through the manufacturer (Western Digital) for an RMA if you just want a working drive. A lot of hard drive manufacturers have 3-5 year warranties anyway.
