I just noticed that my NP5790's hard drive light blinks every second or so even when its idle on desktop, I have performed a virus scan and have deleted 1 virus that was present. I run Avast anti virus along with windows defender and firewall so I think im clean, yet the problem still persists. Is this normal?

Could just be the OS indexing or something if Vista and new, sounds like one of the Vista features that will make it faster at some point.
-
yeah t could just be normal
try switching off the option for indexing wij makes searches faster or so they say
you could also run a few spyware removal tools just to be sure if they turn up nothing i guess your fine
cheers, -
I turned off the indexing option and ran virus scan multiple times

If you have an active program running in the background:
- Anti-Virus
- Spyware/Malware Removers
- on occasion, the firewall can tell you which program is active (and might be trying to do re-attempts to access the Internet)
then that is what will cause the occasional blinking of the HDD. -
so its normal that it blinks every second on the second?
-
It doesn't sound abnormal to me.
Do you have your settings set so that the Hard Drive will turn off after a certain amount of time
Go in your Control Panel, under Power Options.
Look at the Power Schemes, there should be an option there that says "Turn off hard disks: _____" Select a certain amount of time.
That should turn off your hard drive after that time, so if you're not using your notebook for, say 15 minutes, the blinking should stop. -
in that case i echo tibos post above well look for running programs in the background that usually use up the hdd i dont reckon the platter stays still when its on either but thats just what i think and maybe wrong also try turning off the ssystem restore option maybe that would help
cheers
