    This is my desktop replacement/hardcore gaming laptop. Any changes/recommendations/suggestions are welcome! This comes to $3044.00

    Display: 17.3" 1920 x 1080 FHD LED Backlit Glossy Display
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-960, 8MB L3 Cache, 3.2-3.46GHz (Desktop CPU)
    Memory: (6GB) 6144MB, PC3-8500/1066MHz DDR3 - 3 SO-DIMM
    Graphics Card: 2 X AMD® Radeon HD 6990M 2GB GDDR5 (CrossFireX)
    Hard Drive: 120GB Intel® (510) SATA III 6Gb/s SSD2 Drive
    Hard Drive 2: 750GB 7200rpm 2.5" SATA 300
    Optical Drive Bay: 8X Multi DVD+/-R/RW RAM Dual-Layer Drive
    Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 7 Home Premium; 64-bit
    Wireless: Intel® 6300 Ultimate-N 802.11A/B/G/N LAN and Bluetooth Card
    Cooling: IC Diamond 7 Thermal Compound, CPU & GPU

    Note that I have the standard laptop screen, not the glossy/matte upgraded screen. Also, no third HD (room for improvement). No RAID, obviously. Also, the 1 TB 5400rpm HD is only $50 more than the HD I choose here. Any suggestions here?

    Any help or suggestions would be great! I would, however, prefer not to add components myself. I played with the idea of buying the SSD separate and installing myself but I do not want do that.

    Thanks so much, everyone! This is a great community and I am happy to finally make an account :)

    hi and welcome to nbr
    that is some beast of a setup youve got there.
    i would defo NOT go for the 5400rpm 1tb hard drive.
    depending what you will be using it for i might of gone for more ram but as you said you can update this at a later stage.
    i have to admit the matte screens are amazing and depending where you live the glossy does get to be a pain sometimes in bright sunshine.

    where have you decided to buy from in the end.

    Yeah, I agree about the matte screen. But it raises the price by $200 and I'm not wealthy. I will certainly put some thought into it before purchasing though. Thanks!

    Any other suggestions/recommendations? I will do my best to keep up with the reputation stuff here.

    I see. Hmmm. Thanks much for the information. Well, I don't suspect I will require such an extreme CPU. And considering there aren't any GPU changes, I don't know how much I will really need that particular laptop.

    I don't see a mention of prices. Will it be significantly more expensive? Because my absolute top-price is $3,300.

    Also, I would like to purchase this laptop before February. Do any of you suspect that is a likely release date?

    Thanks again :)

    I think it is possible to get p270wm before Feb. Currently the x7200 isn't on Clevo anymore and not sure when it will appear again. Or Clevo is trying prepare to release the p270wm. Your $3k will be even worth spending on the p270wm. Won't be long now.

    I think your money would be much better spent on a P180HM from Malibal. $3K will grab you a machine that'll eat an X7200.

    Besides, the X7200 is the kind of computer I would buy ONLY if I could afford it when it's maxed out. Roughly a $9000 purchase on Malibal with all the best options.

    :D

    Thanks so much for the reply! I love your image. It gives character :)

    I tested out settings and I got a superior X7200 for 3k, over the P180HM. I'm buying from Malibal. So it was easy to compare the customizations and prices. So yeah, definitely did not "eat" the X7200 :)

    I personally can't stand glossy displays, but if you do not mind it may be worth not upgrading the display. The major differences between the higher gamma displays is the color reproduction levels are more accurate.

    The cost to upgrade to a bluray reader is decently low, enough so that you should consider if you have any desire to use this system in any way that playing bluray would be useful to factor into your decision.

    The Intel 6300 precludes the usage of bluetooth as it uses the three antenna in the unit.

    I would suggest buying a tube of thermal compound yourself, and getting to know your laptop properly (after running it for a few weeks to make sure everything is properly working) by installing the paste yourself. This way you're sure of what you get, and it's a good deal cheaper, too.

    If you are aiming to use the 750GB drive as a data storage disk, getting a second one and running them in RAID0 would be the obvious choice in making it that much faster. Getting another and running them in RAID1 would be the safe choice if you need access to your data drive at all times, no matter what.

    The performance hit on a 5.4krpm drive is not worth the cost involved. Spend that extra 50$ towards another 7.2krpm 750GB disk, run them in RAID0, and it'll be extremely speedy.

    I would also suggest that you shop around between all of the resellers (there is a sticky at the top of this forum regarding them) to review the different options you can obtain, differences in prices, and differences in service.
    ~~~
    I hit over nine thousand by the time I reached the display cards (dual quadro, which would be an extremely useless upgrade for most people), with the total topping 15k$ after I added the rest of all possible upgrades.
    Conversely, I have a few builds of the x7200 that near 4k$ that easily are the very best possible set of hardware you're going to get with the laptop at the most reasonable price. There's no reason to buy the extreme edition CPU, nor quadro graphic cards, or the like, for my usage. Your mileage will vary.
    Another thing to note is the P270HM supports SATA III. x7200 is SATA II. Also it will support future graphic cards.
    Not sure what this means, as ppl are posting the x7200 and P270WM will support the same MxM cards.
    The MXM slot will be the same. However, it is not known if Clevo/Sager will support next gen cards in the x7200. Meaning an updated bios and what not.
    The posted pre-release "spec" states "MXM3.0 Type B." Anyone know what's in the x7200? Original Release (or Type A)?
