Took my dead lappy to the repairsguy to get a burnt out motherboard part looked at. He switched a component and charged me £130. Okay, but now:

there's a 'small' problem he couldn't get his head round.

Adapter plugged in, battery taken out = Computer runs off of AC.
Adapter in, battery in = Computer runs off of the battery! Though it is continually being recharged by the Power Supply. Annoying because all of Windows thinks I'm running in battery mode all the time, And downclocking everything and preventing some applications from even running. (This can also kill my battery v quickly I'm guessing if I run in this mode, so I'm taking the battery out in regular use)

Tried Windows 7, 8. Same deal. Reinstalled Bios. Same story.
Now Its probably the shoddy job of the Repair Guy and whatever he replaced. And while I can live with the problem, I'd like to ask someone who knows if there's anything I can run on the hardware level to evaluate this issue?

    Cheers boys.

Also if there's no cure, what can I do at a fundamental level when in 'battery mode' to prevent the downclocking it does if I have a battery present at all.

And particularly the graphic card, which brings up low scores in WEI even if I uninstall the ACPI Battery in Device Manager.

Hello, uh sounds like he didn't find everything, and of course I'm assuming your ac and battery are tested good? There are numerous components on a board and he missed something, and only replaced what looked obvious to him, he doesn't sound like a component level repair facility.

He wouldn't have missed it and he would have fixed it, there are separate charging circuits as well, if something burnt it could have a cold solder joint or short somewhere else which is causing this. What caused your laptop to originally die?

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,
