I have a P150EM and every temperature monitor Ive tried didnt work. Ive tried HWMonitor, speedfan, MSI Afterburner, and EVGA Precision. MSI Afterburner and EVGA Precision showed my 7970m but they wouldnt display any information about them(temps etc.) Speedfan didnt show anything and HWMonitor only shows my CPU but it says its a i7 3820QM and I have a i7 3740QM. Is this normal?

try cpu-z for ur cpu identification.

also, try and put some load onto ur 7970m, for example by running msi kombustor in a window. then open any of the tools u just mentioned again. id also try and check out gpu-z :)

    cheers

If GUI based software is not picking up the thermals, double check that your BIOS gives you readings. There could be a problem with the on-board monitoring system.

You can try updating the chipset driver to see if allows anything to detect your thermals.

run intel extreme tuning utility which will check cpu and gpu. it should be pre loaded so search in start menu.

I am also unable to see my temps/driver version etc. in most programs, but HWiNFO is able to show me my temps. You should give it a shot.

Try making sure GPU-Z is set to high performance, open it and use the pci-e check (question mark) and then open the monitoring programs while that is running.

I sset GPU-Z to high performance and still no luck. HWiNFO works except it doesnt show any temperatures and Intel extreme tuning utility shows everything except my GPU temps.

I have pretty much the same issue. I also got P150EM with 3610QM and 7970M, MSI afterburner detects GPU but only shows fps and nothing else, GPU-Z does not open. I have a clean install of latest 12.11 ati beta drivers by the way.

Don't really have any complains when it comes to games at this point, so it isn't that tragic, but it would be nice to be able to see some temps and frequencies in monitoring tools. Going to try some other programs now.

    EDIT:
CPU - Z shows the appropriate processor, but only sees HD4000 in the GPU tab.
HWmonitor - only shows details for battery and hard drive :( neither CPU nor GPU information.

    EDIT#2:
Intel extreme tuning tool does same as GPU-Z - gets stuck on the title/logo screen.

    EDIT #3:
Just ran 3dMARK11 and got P6446. No OC, clean beta 12.11 drivers. Is that a normal score? By the way I got an unrecognized drivers error I guess it's because the betas.

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5276701

I was thinking to perhaps clean the laptop from any AMD drivers again, install stock ones (provided by reseller) and then the 12.11 latest beta on top, but I don't want to get it messed up again as it seems to perform fine at the moment. Any other suggestions?

If you're mainly concerned over temp monitoring, then check your BIOS to see if it displays any temperature information. If not, look into a BIOS update or chipset update; if your BIOS can't give you readings, there's a good chance software utilities won't either.

3740qm is correct, cpu-z probably just needs an update for that :) ive had a similar situation where my previous 2860qm was identified as an 2920xm in cpu-z. that has been corrected with an update.

edit: btw, the "specification" field in CPU-Z is read from a hard-coded info in the CPU, whereas the "name" is just derived from the specs that cpu-z can identify. so when in doubt, always go with the "specification" field :)

CPU-Z has a habit of calling the 40 series CPUs the name of the 20 model with the same frequency.
