I was quite disappointed with the cooling system in the NP9150 series, has it gotten better? Might be getting a new laptop when they do the next gpu/cpu revision.
Thanks

For the most part, in the new P1x0SM and P1x7SM Clevos, heatsinks and fans are exactly the same as in P1x0EM (Sager NP9150/NP9170). The only difference is if they come with GTX780M - there is a different heatsink for it, which now is a single piece, not two pieces.
-
May I ask why you are disappointed?
-
There were lots of gaps in the cooling system, weren't tight enough, ect. Just remember everyone posting how they had to modify their rigs to get decent temps.
-
I believe the gaps have been fixed, as I have not heard it reported with the current batch.
-
Yeah that's something I noticed when I went to do a repaste. It was pretty obvious in my case too.
I was considering the foil mod but it looks atrocious and would be a pain to remove. -
I am currently using an Ivy Bridge W370ET, the cooling is DEFINETELY better than P150Hm that I used to own.
The differences are many, the single-fan W versus the dual-fan P, but despite having less fans, the W is doing a way better job cooling the system due to the lack of gaps between the heatsink and the fan itself.
Also, they (Clevo) began placing black foil between the fan and heatsink, on both sides (top and bottom) so the airflow is even better now.
Temps in my GPU never go beyond 59-60' (under the heaviest conditions) and CPU is along those lines too (maybe a little hotter).
I cleaned my laptop for the first time in since I bought it, it had some dust clogs in the heatsink vents causing 2-5' degrees difference in the temps.
Now that everything is clean again, I placed a yellow insolation tape on the gap between the heatsink and fan (had to throw the stock black foil away) and temps are as low as ever.
What Im trying to say is, go for it. Clevo is improving (slowly but surely) in the right direction, even the Creative X-Fi sound software has gotten better!
We also have a HUGE difference compared to the old P series - now the screen bezels are MATTE and no more glossy C.R.A.P like they used to be! -
Got a P370SM with an HD 8970M and GPU temps never went above 85C (usually around 80C) under hardcore gaming. So I'm pretty pleased!

Hi,
I have a XMG P502 (clevo 150Em, i7 3630 and 7970m) and neither cpu nor gpu go above 80ºC, in fact, gaming cpu is below 70ºC.
I´ve bought it past June, so i think clevo has improved its cooling system, as for tehir first versions. I haven´t repaste.
In stress test (prime95, furmark, etc) both cpu and gpu are around 80º-85º, in summer (I live in a part of Spain that is very hot) the gpu sometimes reached 90º, but then tthe fan got faster and temps decrease up to 80ºC.
I´m really happy with this laptop -
I have a P370SM (NP-9380) with 780M SLI, and even after 5 continous hours of gaming in Sleeping Dogs on Ultra, GPU temps peak at around 83 (master) and 80 (slave). The CPU (4900MQ) does run a bit hotter at around 85. These are temps with a room temp of about 15 C (60 F). Pretty impressive considering that fans never once kicked into full gear. If I force max fans with Fn+1, CPU drops to 80 peak, while the master GPU peaks at 73 and slave at 67! So yes I'd say the cooling system is pretty robust (in P370SM at least).

Hey there, the P series have had a couple of tweaks, the heatpipes for the GPUs are now thicker allowing more efficient heat transfer and in some cases the VRM/GPU cooling has been combined to allow more even cooling.

Im very optimistic about next year's lineup.
Considering Clevo improved P370EM this year to P370SM with better heatsink layout, glossy bezels are a thing of the past....which again, makes me feel optimistic for next year.
All I want is an uncomplicated, simple layout of heatsinks and efficient heat dissipation. And strong plastic on the chassis, preferably scratch-resistant with minimum flex troughout.
That, combined with next-gen stuff inside.geko95gek likes this. -

To be fair, I had the 8130 (their older model) and I had no problems with cooling
-
8130 were using 75W video cards, there aint much heat compared to 100W ones used in 8150
-
I agree with adjininlo on the "not broke, dont fix it" part. Cooling seems to have reached a pretty good stage in the latest Clevo systems.
I'd rather they just left it and focused on improving other things that actually need it.b0b1man likes this. -
Oh..the more you know.

Yes the 8130 has a smaller power brick and always uses at most the 2nd from top card.
Has clevo's cooling system gotten better since the NP9150 series?
