Every once and awhile while i'm watching a video or playing a game. My game will skip a beat for a second or the video will glitch out for a second and when that ends, my audio volume is waaaaayyy too low, almost muted. Only way to fix it is to close and reopen the game or video.

What exactly could be causing this? I've noticed it happening both through my hdmi port audio and my external usb x-fi 5.1 sound card.

All my drivers are up to date.

Was it always like that, or just started? Have you done anything with the machine recently (new firewall, updated drivers, new hardware, etc)? How does your set-up like HDCP - all fine and handshaking nicely?

Try uninstalling all sound drivers, rebooting, reinstalling all sound driver, and if you have the THX TruStudio Pro be sure to follow link for activation it puts on your desktop otherwise THX features will not work. Secondly, check and see if it the "Loudness Equalizer" kicking in affecting the sound level. I am having some funky issues with it myself which I discovered last night. You'll find it under "Enhancements" tab of "Speakers Properties" Toggle it on/off and see if it relates.
