    Hi folks,

I just got an NP5796 with P9500 processor from from xoticpc. I installed XP pro on it, and then the drivers/system software provided by Sager, and I'm having some issues. Any insight would be very appreciated.

I've spoken to xoticpc tech support a few times, and they're calling Sager tomorrow (since they're not open today). I'll continue working on the problems with them, but thought I would post here too in the meantime.

    The issues:
    1. Hotkeys driver. At startup, I get an error message that says:
    Hotkeys
    Run-time error -2147221020 (800401e4)
    Automation error
    Invalid syntax

    2. Fingerprint driver and Protector Suite software:
    a. When trying to go through he "user enrollment" I get as far as the welcome panel and click on next. The next button stays clicked and the software hangs. ctrl-alt-del plus end program won't shut it down; I have to just restart the computer.
    b. When I shut down the computer, I get an "end now" message regarding PSQL::TrayWND. I'm assuming that's Protector Suite. I have to click the end now button to complete the shut-down.
    c. When fingerprint driver/software is installed, the computer takes forever to shut down and startup. Once I uninstall it (which I've done), shut down and startup go back to being reasonably speedy.

    3. DVD drive: I close the drive, it pops open, I close it, it pops open, I close it, it pops open, I close it...it stays closed. Or, it does that 10 times. Or, not at all.

Here's what I've tried so far:
    1. Uninstalling drivers included on the Sager CD, downloading newer versions from Sager's website and installing those instead.
    2. Complete format and reinstall of Windows XP Pro and drivers.
    3. Run memtest86 overnight and Seagate's HD diagnostic software...both passed without errors.

    Any ideas?

Thanks, but I really don't want to run Vista. This laptop is supposed to be fully XP compatible (and is sold with XP drivers).

I installed XP on an eSata drive, I just have to switch the sata settings in the BIOS when booting from eSata vs the internal HDD but no other issues.
The XP drivers on the disc installed fine.

I have Vista Biz 64 bit and have the same issue with the drive popping open.

I found that if I put my fingers on the far outer edges and close it stays closed. A little annoying but not a big deal.

Also I have the problem of the Wireless card loosing its signal and having to repair it or assign another IP address.

This hapeens frequently sometimes while I'm using it and other times when I've had it in sleep mode and wake it up.

There was another person who posted this as well with regards to the wireless card.

I don't have any solutions at this time, but your not alone.

Never had any of the problems. I started with the P9500 and Vista Ultimate 64. I don't think I could help you much since I abandoned the inferior XP when Vista came out, but I'll guarantee you don't have those issues in Vista.

Of these issues, the only one I really care about is the fingerprint driver. If I can't get the hotkeys working, eh, not a big deal. And the cd drive stays closed eventually. I'd really like to use the fingerprint scanner though as I will be traveling a lot and would like the added security.

Thanks sujinge9, but I'm not so sure about that. I spoke with Sager support yesterday, and they were pretty surprised that I was having the issues I was having and said that everything should work fine...so they had me send the laptop back to them for service.

    You people with your WinXP.....

I really do not know *** you think is wrong with Vista?

On a laptop as powerful as the m570tu, there is no noticeable difference.

And if you want to ***** about the 3dmark scores thats fine. Be a slave to benchmarks, and don't enjoy an excellent system.

Plus there are some great Dells on ebay that will run XP just fine.

    m570tu, P9500, m9800 GT, Vista64 Ultimate NO PROBLEMS!

Oh I have ONE stuck pixel, but I don't think that has anything to do with the OS.

    Good luck with XP!

    Here we go again

Vista is slower than XP (unless you tweak, but you can do that to XP too). It's more bloated than XP (you gotta pay for all that nannying and eye candy). Vista has something called DRM which many sensible people find objectionable. For example, it accepts 'do not allow recording' flags from broadcast companies. XP lets you record what you want. Vista still has compatibility issues with both drivers and apps. Tons and tons of free little apps just don't work with Vista.

Downside of not using vista? You don't get the 'Wow' GUI. You can't boast on forums that you're on the 'cutting edge'. You have to look after your own program control. You can't hot swap with esata. You don't get DX10, but even a 570TU is still not powerful enough to use this - if you've looked at it objectively, you'll know you get better results maxing out the DX9 settings.

To the earlier poster who said the 570TU is not fully XP compatible - could you elaborate? What magic part of the TU hardware needs a Vista kernel to work? What drivers could you not get for XP? FYI I have used both Vista and XP and it works fine with both (just way faster and more control with XP).

    Ok...just following up.

xoticpc and, particularly, Sager tech support were excellent. After a short discussion, Alan and Ty at Sager had me send the laptop back to them (on their dime). They fixed some software issues, adjusted the cd door, and sent it back to me. Very quick turnaround and everything works 100% now.
