Does anyone know or have experience with heat issues with the following setup on a M860TU (NP8660) with stock fan and heatsink
    1. T9900 + GTX 280m
    2. P9700 + GTX 280m

I know that P9700 will run cooler than T9900. Just wondering if the T9900 will provide too much heat for the single fan on the M860TU.

The M860TU can use Core 2 Quads. A mere Core 2 Duo does not challenge it's god-tier cooling solution.

You wouldn't notice a big difference even if with quads, so examine your cooling system. Maybe the fans are malfunctioning (or/and a BIOS re-flash is needed), thermal compound problem (worth to open and re-apply something like MX-3 or IC7, or it could be simply because of clogged vents.

yeah i am not having heat problems....just trying to upgrade my M860TU and wondering if that above 2 combination might cause any heat problems...just not really sure if there is a significant amount of additional heat from the 280m than the 260m...

also i thought the M860TU does not support quad core CPU...only the M860ETU does...

280M isn´t that hot, if you have tried to put a Quadro 3700M in it you will know what the heat is. :D

Thats right, only ETU support quad core.

You do know you have to mod the 280M to make it fit properly?

Yes you need an ETU for quads, but what I mean is that the cooling design didn't change with the revision.

You have to pry off the backplate from your original GPU and put it on your 280M. Use a flat screwdriver. Be careful so you don`t bend the backplate to much, otherwise it won`t get in contact 100% with the heatsink. Also, be careful so you don`t ruin your original card.

The 280M are for M570, and it does not have the backplate which the M860 uses. Thats why.

For backplate removal, I suggest first heating it up with a blow dryer or something similar.
