I'm thinking of buying the wicked heavy 17" Clevo laptop. Question is, should I buy that or a PC?

It's price vs. "portability" - and I'm not sure you can call the 17" clevo portable.

What do you think I should buy and why?

It will depend on which ever is more practical for you.

If you are needing to bring around a powerful system (for pro media work, gaming, etc), then a powerful notebook is the way to go.

If you are going to mainly going to use it in one place (at home), then you should just build a desktop.

I am not home most of the day and I need the performance for what I do (gaming, rendering, work, etc..) on the go. So I choose to get a desktop replacement.

I am still happy with my decision, but if I was mainly home, then I would get a desktop.

i recken the same as gophn because you would get a hell of a lot more performance out of a desktop then even the highest lappie

It also depends on your better half's idea of what counts as clean - and more importantly, what count's as not-clean. :err:

My better half does not like the idea of having a desktop, with it's plastic-y box and rats'-nest of cables, sitting around in the apt anywhere - anywhere she can see it (even on tip-toes or bending sideways :D ). Thus, by necessity the only computer I can really have is something along the lines of a notebook - something I can quickly & easily pack away when I'm done with it.

I will admit (but you're all sworn to secrecy not to tell her  ) that it does make things a little less cluttered, and with a small child in the house, clutter-free zones are few and far between. Also, we travel out to the in-laws about 1 or 2 times a month, and a desktop certainly wouldn't be transportable just for two days.

So, all in all, even though I really don't need the "portability" of a notebook, I still need the all-in-one package aspect of it in order to be able to put it away out of sight when I'm done with it and also to bring it with me on those ocassional trips where I want it with me, but lugging it around in a rucksack is just fine (i.e., I don't need a superlite).

Actually, I've played around a little with Remote Desktop Connection, and what I really wish I could get is a desktop box that's connected wirelessly to a console - a keyboard and a display screen - that's put together like a notebook so that I could have the power and uprgadeability of a desktop with the ease and storability of the notebook.

Yeah I agree with Shyster. I like the all-in-one-ness of a laptop. But when it costs $3000? I think I'll go desktop.
