Hey all!
I have been looking a ton this forum for ages trying to find an exact answer, but haven’t been able to, so I apologise if this is a duplicate question.
I recently bought a Metabox (re-brand of Clevo) alpha N850HJ gaming notebook, which came with i7-7700HQ and a GTX 1050 2gb DDR5 GPU.
It runs most games high at 1080p just fine, and the cpu isn’t at all taxed in dong so.
However, the GPU seems to be letting it down in games such as Far Cry 5, where it can drop below 30fps even on medium at 1080p
I want to be able to have more vram, as it shows to be using 2.5gb to run medium settings.
I would love to self-install another mxm card, such as a 4gb or above in the 1060 or 1070 line, just to help it out and future proof it a little more.
I have no idea where to start - I am aware of Eurocom and would likely order there unless there is a reputable cheaper seller, but I don’t know which Clevo model the N850HJ corresponds to, so I do not know where to begin.
I am very experienced in building and swapping out parts in PCs in the past, but this rebranding of Clevo is confusing me, as I do not know what wattage the original laptop has or supoorts, and what size MXM chip would fit!!
The option was there to add an 1060 or 1050ti or even 1070 at checkout when this unit was originally for sale, so I have no doubt it supports them. I simply do not know how to go about finding where to buy one or a detailed guide of swapping them out.
Thankyou so much in advance!!

You can't upgrade. This model has BGA (soldered to mainboard) CPU and GPU.

the BGA curse strikes again...
@Arno88 Clevo machines of the P7 or P8 series are fully socketed (CPU & GPU). There are also a few machines with socketed CPU but soldered GPU / iGPU only (dont remember the series designation though). All the rest is fully soldered BGA on CPU and GPU...ole!!! likes this. -

I think the option selecting different GPU would have meant a different model, the HJ has everything integreted in the board and cannot itself have different cards. -
only option would be for the op to get a different motherboard for the same laptop model, that way he could indeed upgrade his gpu

The N850HP6 board touts the 1060, that's the best you can get out of this series - but with the HP6 you lose the fingerprint reader.

Also they had different heatsink arangements, it's not really viable for a board swap only.
