So my GF wanted to use my computer when i was in the other room and she put the wrong power plug into it. Now it will start up and everything seems to work except the touch pad and keyboard (including the buttons on the touch pad).
Here what was put into my laptop
-Boston AC adaptor
-Input: 120VAC 60ghz 300mA
-Output:12VAC 2000mA
This is my charger for my laptop
AC input:100-240V~2.5A, 50-60ghz
DC output:18-24V-6.0A 120W MAX.
Did my GF kill my laptop or is there something basic i can do to fix my problem.
Also I put an external mouse in the usb put and that works i have not tryed a keyboard yet.
I have also reseated the keyboard and that did change anything.
Any ideas? tomorrow i plan to call Xoticpc and see if i can get this thing fix asap and see if it falls under warranty. Any help you guys have will be awesome thanks

Is there a FUNC key that disables the touchpad?

From what i can see, it looks like the laptop would have been severly under powered by using the boston power supply
Heres what was put into your laptop
-Boston AC adaptor
-Input: 120VAC 60ghz 300mA // is 0.3A and the sager wants 2.5A
-Output:12VAC 2000mA // and the output is only 2A and sager wants 6A
Im not sure if the sager would at that point say F*** the external PSU and run off the battery or try to use the PSU. However under powering electronics can lead to devestating effects, personally from experience, running electronics underpowered(sags) causes more damage than overpowering (swells). -
Ok so i left to get a keyboard because i was able to run it before but now it wont even start up. Does anyone think that this could be a killed motherboard? Xoticpc is closed today so i cant call but tomarrow i will see what i can do.

Oh my god! I could never leave anybody alone with this laptop because I can just see somebody doing the same thing to mine if I did. I hope you can get this problem fixed. Sounds nasty. And I would be crying already.

What was the power cord doing out the laptop? And how the heck do you put the wrong one in?
-
I believe most AC have the same (or look-alike) jack to plug in the laptop. You can really do a big mess when not using the correct adapter or plugging the wrong thing in. I've heard a story where someone plugged a power jack into a A/V 3.5mm output and the output doesn't work now.

Ok update to the story. after computer wouldnt start i tryed it without the battery. It turned on thank god. So its not the MB. Luckly i bought a spare battery. I only charged it a little but so when i put it in the computer it started beeming at me. When i plugged it in the computer didnt recoonize the power cord at all. When theres no battery in though it works. Im thinking my orginal battery is trash but i dont know.
Also the keyboard and touchpad are still broken. I am happy that its not the motherboard.
Heres the real question. Does this fall under warrenty? and i have heard that Sager or rather Xotic are pretty good about fixing your laptop and sending it back in a decent amount of time... true?
God i hope this doesnt cost me or rather her a ton -
I dont know how truthful Device Manager is but it is saying my keyboard and Touchpad are working properly... im stumped

Perhaps they have accidentally been disabled by some software. Check your mouse settings to see if the touchpad has been turned off. I don't know how the keyboard would turn off though. Can you try reinstalling some drivers?

There could be damage to the MB-possibly the regulator chip or other passive components related to the MB power supply. The reason is your notebook is design to take a DC power source and an AC source was applied by using the wrong power brick. It is the negative(below ground) swing of this AC voltage that can do real damage to the regulator chip or other related components. The fact that it still works means there might be some sort of diode protection built into the power input of the MB. Nevertheless, there still might be some latent damage that may show up eventually.
This type of abuse would definitely not be covered by any warranty I have ever heard of, but I guess if you don't tell them what caused the damage they may still cover it under your warranty. -
I would have to agree this doesnt sound like a broken keyboard or touch pad. I think its probably mb related.
You should definately let them have a look at it, but if they have techs that troubleshoot the motherboard i believe they will be able to tell right away from tell tale signs (such as burnt diodes/bulging caps) that you had a power problem.
good luck, let us know what happens and/or the price of a new mb. My guess is gunna be 800$ -
It's more like 500$, and he has free labor included.
