I've been looking to replace my current "Gaming" laptop (the Clevo 11 inch) and after removing the AW 15" and Gigabyte's offering I have narrowed it down to the two Sager/Clevo computers (listed below). My only real priority is the 980M.
I've read the reviews but am having a little difficulty distinguishing the differences between the two. It seems the P750 is a bit bulkier, (better processor/cooling)? All things being equal, i would prefer the smaller/lighter form factor of the two but do want something that will hold up.
Any input to help make the decision is much appreciated?
Also, the Clevo laptop i have (Clevo 11" 960m) has been great with the exception of a pretty poor screen, how are the screens on these two? (I would lean for the lower resolution ones for gaming reasons, but if the higher resolution versions have better color production, etc., than i would go with that)
Thanks everyone in advance and have a great New Years!

Hey mate,
In my opinion if you are just going to be gaming the p650 would be the better choice.
The stock screen is beautiful on both though. -

The P750DM offers more raw CPU power and socketed CPU/MXM GPU. But if form factor is important I would agree the P650 offers a really nice package especially with the 6820hk if CPU power is needed.
-
They're quite different. One used a desktop CPU, MXM GPU, has a better keyboard, better cooling, is quieter, and provides easier-to-access internals (750DM). It's also more expensive and a bit bigger.

Go with the P750DM bro, it has better performance, a beautiful IPS GSYNC HD Screen, and is easily upgrade able in the future.

LOL I know right? He just said thanks so all our recommendations were left in wonder land -
The 650RG has the same G-SYNC screen though, so that's not really a differentiating factor.Timbabs123 likes this.

If I can find a good deal or bring price down a bit, I'm going with the P750M but it sounds like either way I'm in good hands.i_pk_pjers_i and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Another vote for the P750DM. I've got a weak spot for fully upgradeable laptops - I LOVE them.

P750DM lol... Stop giving hope of P570WM owners of a new X99 platform

I agree, either way I think you will be happy.

I think you're looking at two good choices. Overall for what you had before the P650 is very similar and an awesome machine. the 750DM is a great machine but the 11" you have now likely isn't upgradeable and you'll be going a lot bigger compared to what you have now.
Good luck in your search and let us know when you pull the trigger! -
I looked at both of these and settled on the 650, FYI. The 750 is nice, but I had concerns about whether the cooling system could handle that desktop CPU. Additionally, the 1719 price that you see listed there includes (from my experience) a GTX 970m by default; it will likely add another 300-400 bucks to upgrade to the 980m.

Can't wait for your review of the P650 vs AW15. Literally. No sign of my 8GB VRAM replacement and new issues keep with my AW15 popping up. Should stop being a baby and return it already
Shame about lack of TB3 and memory overclocking in the 650RE (quite surprising omissions)
-
concerning handling of desktop cpus: yes and no.
it depends on the user, basically. if your just leave everything at stock config, then ull most probably run into thermal throttling at intensive cpu loads. with a few tweaks here and there though, such as high end TIM, undervolt, propping up back of machine and regular maintenance @dusting, temps are totally manageable and the cooling system lets you overclock to pretty insane clocks
i myself am running at 4.3 ghz all cores 24/7 and can do 4.8 ghz in benchmarks
-
Not sure if that review is coming. AW never charged my card, although my order is listed as still in process. Maybe they were able to cancel after all. No idea, because I'm not calling and waiting 30 minutes for the call center in India.
-
Sounds awesome, but there is no way I would go to all of that trouble. Once I've completed my initial setup/modifications upon receipt of the system, I just boot and play, occasionally popping the bottom cover for a quick dusting. PC/gaming time is short and precious for me (wife and 2 young girls)
-
Yeah, looks like a great semi-stationary desktop replacment, but let's be honest with ourselves: pretty much useless on the go. Shame since it would have been viable with a configurable optimus ala the p650, I assume. Then again, there is probably no optimus for desktop CPUs....Last edited: Jan 5, 2016

That's fair. As long as you maintain it - which really isn't time consuming - it should treat you pretty well, allowing you all the more time for your family.
-
FYI I think I only got charged once it either went to prod or was ready for dispatch. Def not initially. Suggest you try to get it materially cancelled unless you dont mind receiving one and then potentially going through a serious return hassle and 2 month cash lockdown.
-
sure, everyone has their own preferences and hobbies, thats why choice is always good
DTR indeed, and yes this machine is definitely not designed for being away from the socket for hours on end
perfect for me though, it serves me as a mobile workstation, portable enough to take to work and back every day and still give me the power i need for my number crunching
definitely an advantage over a regular desktop with similar performance! as for everything else in terms of mobile computing, a nice highend phablet is enough for me
-
Hmm, maybe should give it another think. I would need it to hold up for about 30 min under load, which could be a struggle if the GPU gets involved. Ultimately it does have easily swappable battery. The high temps are def a downside in terms of reliability alone. Need to read more about this
I'm nalso talking about lap use. Not sure it's a good idea given that the relatively super-cool AW15 can get quite hot at times. -
u can get about 1 hour of high load on battery and an absolute max. of 2.5-3 hours with powersaving tweaks enabled
as i said before, the high temps can easily be averted with a few simple tweaks. the cooling system is indeed superb, very powerful and quite silent at the same time! -
Nice. Plus it does have TB3, so potentially some eGPUs will show up for that.
-
Well there was a hold on my pending activity, but it vanished. Both machines were charged to a card with a $25k credit limit and zero balance otherwise, so I'm not worried about cash lockdown. If they send it, I will play with both and return my least preferred.

Hopefully we get some standards and support from AMD/Nvidia so it's nice and simple.
