Hi guys I getting a lot of good feedback form this forum so I decided to make a thread. Heres my problem:

I initially wanted a 15.6" Sager NP860 because of the user changable GPU, and I heard they were built to last and dont throttle. But whilst on Xotic PC I noticed this:

    http://www.xoticpc.com/gx740079us-order-p-2765.html?wconfigure=yes

I would customize the MSI with 6GB RAM to get a similar price to the NP8690

along with some other tasty systems (Dont like the new asus far to heavy for a laptop)

    My questions are:

    1. What are the pros and cons between two systems ?
    2. Which one is the better performer ?
    3. Is there anything else out there you would reccommenr instead of these, budget is around $1600.

    Many Thanks in advance!

a similar system would be the asus g73, which i think is slightly bulikier adn a little more expensive.
for me the 8690 with its smaller screen and lesser weight is more ideal for portability- and the new refresh has the nvidia gtx285m.
the msi and g73 have the new ati 5870 that should be able to beat out the top nvidia cards. it however a new gpu and real world performance still has to be confirmed ie stability, compatibility, actual game results, etc. same goes for the laptops themselves regarding heat management, bsods, power consumption etc.
the 8690 itslef has no major problems. some have been complaining of loud fans and subpar audio output, but those are the most common issues.
some asus models have heat and throttling(?) issues i think.
some msi models have screen bleed and keyboard flex issues.
best to check out their respectiveforums also.
but fwiw my fav brands are:
    sager
    asus
    msi

    :)

    1.

    Sager:
    Pros:
    + Very reliable.
    + LED Screen.
    + Keyboard style.
    + Posibly better cooling system.
    + Cutomizable.
    Cons:
    - Dismal battery life.
    - More expensive.

    MSI:
    Pros:
+ Very reliable (not confirmed, though, but based on other MSI laptops...).
    + Rare 16:10 Screen.
    + Better battery life.
+ Quiet cooling system (if its the same as the previous model)
    + Overclocking features.
    + Cheap.
+ Slightly better performance (not confirmed)
    Cons:
    - Screen bleed.
    - Touchpad wear.
    - Non-LED screen (brightness level might be below average)
    - Keyboard layout.

    2.
If you take notebookcheck.com's into account, the Radeon 5870 on the MSI should perform a bit better.

    3.
Consider taking the cheaper MSI. It will have better batery life, and you can upgrade it to a i7-720qm for about 350$ (which is abut the price difference between the two)

Do not take the 6gb's of ram unless you know what benefit you will gain from that.

Thanks for your reply's guys. Ok I don't think I will take the 6GB RAM as I believe games don't need that much yet ? As for the choice between the two, wow im so stuck :) I am ging back home to the UK in Aug so I need to know I have bought the right system before I go.

Would you say that the 16:10 screen ratio on the MSI is better than the full HD 1080p screen I would be gettin on the Sager ?

The screen on the Sager is definitely better than the one on the MSI; but it's smaller. Deciding between the two depends on what you need; if you need battery life and a cheaper solution, go for the MSI. If you want better overall case design go for the Sager.

just a thought but dont forget that for warranty if theres a fault then the cost of both way shipping and insurance would be down to you to return it to america for repair.

Ye I have thought about that lol :) and I banking on that if it doesnt break before I go home in Aug then its not going to lol. Plus kobalt computers in England that use Clevo as their base models...Im hoping that if it does break than I can pay them a premium to take a look at it.

Who knows :) Ill take the risk I guess. Buying it in the US works out about 300 pound cheaper :D

Same case design; it is just safe to assume the screens are the same.

100% not worth it. If you ever need to send it back, that £300 saved won't matter when you are going through the hassle of doing so or paying a premium to have some one else look at it. You just can't beat UK collect and return 2 year warranty.
